I am on a winning streak. Won $12 in powerballl and then won $40 in MM.  I had 11 14 29 39 56 30 and the multiplier.  So the # 30 won for me both times. I picked my own numbers both times.

Yeah instead of $250,000 each are only getting $56,000 sucks but i'll take $56,000 any day!

Come to think of it... since my winners this year have totaled 0$, 56k$ would have been a nice change so I concur.  Bring on the 56k$ winners until the big j/p lands!Party

I know what you meant, COw Pi3, 68 players had 5 + 0, but actually everyone who played didn't match all 6 numbers....

Kind of like how many months have 28 days? All of them.

        Scared

Those who run the lotteries love it when players look for consistency in something that's designed not to have any.

        Lep

There is one and only one 'proven' system, and that is to book the action. No matter the game, let the players pick their own losers.

Can you imagine if ALL 68 did match all six numbers?

How odd would that have been? lol

Very rough estimate each get $1.8M after taxes. Of course each state has different taxing so.. it be less for some.

I strongly suspect that one or two guys messed with a lot of number sets with different mega numbers.

EDIT: Oops, scratch that. I checked the CA website and there are indeed 21 different winners.

Lottoreport says 78,423,325 tickets were sold. For that many we should expect almost exactly 20 5+0 winners, so actual result of 68 is 3.4 times as many as expected.

If QP's account for 70% of tickets we should expect there would have been 14 winners from QP's and 6 from self picks.  Since the QP's are random we can figure that the "extra" 54 winners were all self picks, so the birthday numbers resulted in 9 times as many winners as expected for a random distribution. That suggests that about 90% of the people playing their own numbers pick them based on dates, whether birthdays, anniversaries, or whatever.

14 QP's with the right 5 numbers would have about a 27% chance of matching the right one of the 46 mega balls. Figuring that the people picking birthday numbers would pick a birthday number for the mega ball, let's figure 50 of those had a number from 1 to 31. The probability of all 50 of them missing the right mega ball is about 20%, assuming a random distribution (I'll guess that they're actually skewed to 1-12).

Factoring in the chance for the QP's, the overall chance that all 68 would have missed the mega ball is about 12%.
