it always was. Just think about it, the balls are round, so is the lotto-machine glass. If you take into consideration the brownian motion law and play around with pi digits, the numbers will come to you in a dream, like Mendeleev's table.
By the way, there are rumors, Mendellev was trying to get ready for the lotto play, and by accident came up with his periodic table.
This is very interesting information TV boris...where have you heard of these rumors?
Inquiring minds want to know.
I do know (or have heard the rumor) that the mathematician bernoulli, who discovered some of the laws of gases that allow Ronnie316 to drive his internal combustion engine device all over arizona desert, had a brother bernoulli who was intent on discovering the laws of the coin toss (ie. probability and the way to make money during games of chance)
For general information, coin toss is also a famous member of LP, who worked many year spinning that mean ivory ball in vegas.
In short all scientific progress (and all of the luxuries of western society) can be argued to be discovered by men of math and science trying to advance their odds in the winning of games of chance. (ie. dice, poker, russion roulette, etc.)
Without gambling and the desire to win...we might all be still in the stone age.

Bernoulli's principles were also responsible for the perfection of air lift.
His pioneering research helped to perfect the design of the camber shape of wings, which we now all take for granted in our modern aircraft.

This is a titillating observation LottoBoner, perhaps Thrifty could take lessons on just how much the world has improved because of the wondrous works of the great Coin Toss.

Thats a bold strategy...I can admire that...but not necessarily a wise strategy.
Just think...you believe lil jimmy gonna give it over to you just like that? Just because you bet the farm on one particular drawing?
You would proabalby have better return playing $100 over ten draws.
You have to walk before you can run.
And if you bet more than you can chew, then you will drown in your own tears.
I appreciate your opinion, but it's not "the farm", and I do not agree with the idea that playing the same amount of money over more draws will yield better, or even equal results. Of course it will ... "sometimes", but on average I think the best way to go is to bet "the farm". Spreading your bet money over many draws to me is just silly.
Now, if I havent played the lottery in some time, as well as gave up some conveniences(as well as having a decent salary at work), then $1000 is no big deal, if indeed I fore-go playing the lottery for a while to save that money up. The more combinations you play during one draw, the better your odds of winning are - simple as that. Whether you spend enough, and choose your numbers wisely enoguh to make the difference worthwhile, thats a different story.

It may be silly to you, but you have to understand, playing more combinations is not always better, this i agree with when it comes to thrifty. Here he makes sense. A good spreadsheet can help you stay balanced and in focus.
He becomes non-sensical when he says it is better to play quick picks.
If you play 1000 lines then you are truly gambling. Gambling is an art.
I think Bernoulli wrote the first gambling treatise. It was titled the Art of Conjecture. (Ars conjectandi) in latin.
It had to do with the flipping of a coin and how after x amount of flips, the deviation was minimized.
There are better mathematicians then myself here, who can validate or reject this.
When you play 1000 quick picks, you have not necessarily minimized the deviation. And you are not using the intutive part of your mind. At most in one draw, i would play a 3 power number wheel, with all the other number thus ensuring two 4/5 wins. (for a 5/39)
But you have to work on the right three.
If you dont think you should spread your money over time, then i have a great system for you...Its the Steve Player system and it only cost 59.99 per month not including S+H
We also have the legendary ronnie 316 1% system that only cost 55,000 per draw to win, which is on sale for 159.99
With that you get a fully automated printer to make all your playslip filling needs come true. With a lifetime supply of liquid paper in case of mistakes. We even throw in a fullsize poster of Gina matthews or Yolanda Vega! (poster supplies are limited and not guarenteed to be free of defects)

Yes as a matter of fact all the people look very happy at this table,
In the background you can see the "cooler" approaching...

McGinnin, can we get this man a brochure?
Well, you raise a few good points, but for one, I'm not playing QP. I'm also well-versed in gambling, and you are assuming by what I've said that I am not, simply because you do not understand. I'm not offended at all, though I do find it funny. Keep commenting if you want, but if it's along the lines of the quoted text, then youd be wasting your time. I dont subscribe to many of the common(or uncommon) lottery theories, here or anywhere else. The point of this thread was simply for my own personal research.

To answer the original question,
the most i spent on 5/39 on one draw was 31 dollars where i played banker number 11, and i got it right
i got one 3/5 win
and approximately 10 2/5 correct. (free plays, which are then donated to the nevada showgirls association of america)
i have gone a little over board in 6/40
playing 60 dollars on a draw which was a wash.
I use my own wheel with parameters. Wheeled mostly by intuition and not conditions or wheel guarantees.
I usually win on the first line, so for me any extra lines is usually pathological gambling.
I would say 90% of the time my big money win is on line number 1.
