There are row after row of self service machines for scratch tickets, lotto tickets and winning ticket scanners. I don't know if I am allowed to mention the name of the store but it is a lotto super store at the border of California and Nevada. Nevada doesn't sell lottery so Nevadans who live at the border usually flock to the store to buy tickets especially when the jackpot hits a large amount of money.

This is an open invitation for the Slot machine hacker to re-engineer his light wand. I have seen this machines spit out multiple $10 tickets on a single bet. I am sure he can work his magic on these.

Also sad to say, these machines cannot and will not card the user. I am witness to juveniles who hang around this machines in our stores.

no. California doesn't get Powerball until April 8th. That's 8 draws from now. Powerball will be $500+ million in 3 more draws. The jackpot will pop soon.

Man, with all those scratch machines, you'd think they have tons of big winners.

Last year, they were among the top stores for number of winners with 23, but not the highest, and did not exceed 5 figures in total. This is their >$600 winners for all of 2012:

Only $15,000 as the largest one, no big 6 figure or higher prizes. Many smaller stores did better:

Same concept as beer and liquor stores that border dry areas. The store isn't particulalrly big, but here's a google street view of one in the middle of nowhere, on the Kentucky/Tennessee border.
