First, a ticket isn't lost until you absolutely can't find it so I would look for it before thinking it was lost.
Second, unless you play a particular set of numbers, record or make out play slips for your tickets, you have no way of knowing you bought the winning ticket.
If the ticket is claimed within a few days of the drawing by someone I didn't know who bought it at a store I had never shopped then I would assume I was imagining things and just forget about it.
Otherwise I would put in a claimed with all the information I had and hope no one else made a similar claim and an investigation by the lottery might prove my claim was legit.
All states have a rule, no ticket no prize and more of them are enforcing that rule lately.
