What are the chances we'll see a worldwide lottery someday?

Has this ever been seriously considered before? Europe already has their multi country Euromillions game. Imagine a big jackpot game with the US, Europe, and other countries in Asia and around the world participating.

With a big enough game matrix an occasional billion dollar jackpot wouldn't be beyond the realm of possibility.

The blood sucking attorneys would earn the first billion trying to sort out all of the multi complex legalities before the 1st draw!

You mean the UN could actually find a useful purpose?

I would be happy with a "pool play" option on my Powerball tickets.

Lol, yes it would be one of those rare instances. Much like the states currently earmark lotto profits for education, a hypothetical worldwide lotto could use profits for many altruistic causes like providing food, medicines, and educational opportunities on a large scale.

there has been discussions here about this before.

the real problem is like Job from the bible, finding an honest man , or men, to run the thing.

Would be a Nightmare. Currency exchange, animosity you name it. Some poor Soul from a small village in Africa or a penniless person from the Andes coming to town for the first time in a Decade winning $32 Billion. I think that would not sit well with some high priced  Attorneys who could not get their greasy fingers on that pot.
              Not gonna happen.

                I Agree!

Very true, the temptation for some type of fraud would be enormous given the amount of money that would be involved. There would no doubt need to be a good deal of safeguards and regulation in place to oversee operations for a game like that.

It certainly would be an exciting game in reality. With true worldwide participation the jackpots could start in the quarter billion range and go up from there. It would be like the recent Powerball frenzy for EVERY drawing.

                          China would hack it.

And then we'd send them a stern letter saying they'd better stop that or we'll be forced to send them another stern letter.

I wouldn't be a player on that one.

On the topic of worldwide lotteries I was just reading a story about a Dutch businessman who plans to hold a worldwide lottery this year to pick 10 people to send on a one way mission to Mars by 2023 and set up a colony where they will remain for the rest of their lives.

He calls his venture "Mars One". The way it will work is they'll hold a worldwide lottery to initially select 40 people who will live in southwest US desert isolation meant to simulate Martian conditions, minus the lack of atmosphere of course. Apparently they will remain there for 3 months after which time the 10 "most suited" people will win the opportunity to be on the mission targeted for 2023. In the years leading up to the mission Mars One will send up a few unmanned ships to drop supplies on the red planet to await the crew's arrival.

I didn't think this was serious at first until I read a few more articles about it.

How crazy is a lottery where the grand prize is a one way trip to Mars?

Now that's one lottery I'm not playing!
