On the topic of worldwide lotteries I was just reading a story about a Dutch businessman who plans to hold a worldwide lottery this year to pick 10 people to send on a one way mission to Mars by 2023 and set up a colony where they will remain for the rest of their lives.

He calls his venture "Mars One". The way it will work is they'll hold a worldwide lottery to initially select 40 people who will live in southwest US desert isolation meant to simulate Martian conditions, minus the lack of atmosphere of course. Apparently they will remain there for 3 months after which time the 10 "most suited" people will win the opportunity to be on the mission targeted for 2023. In the years leading up to the mission Mars One will send up a few unmanned ships to drop supplies on the red planet to await the crew's arrival.

I didn't think this was serious at first until I read a few more articles about it.

How crazy is a lottery where the grand prize is a one way trip to Mars?

Now that's one lottery I'm not playing!

Let's all pitch in and send jimmy4164!  Thumbs Up

Has this ever been seriously considered before? Europe already has their multi country Euromillions game. Imagine a big jackpot game with the US, Europe, and other countries in Asia and around the world participating.

With a big enough game matrix an occasional billion dollar jackpot wouldn't be beyond the realm of possibility.

i wish they would but i don't think they will no one can get along Chair

Perhaps I'm just an old idealist, but if they can send athletes to the Olympic games every few years why can't globally like-minded lottery players have the chance to chase the dream of that truly massive jackpot?

On an unrelated note does anybody know what happened to my fellow "Granite-Stater" Mcginnin56? Last I knew he went to the dreaded land of no avatar.

I think el gordo , the fat one in spain has a good  format. sue the tickets are expensive, but man does that money get shared around.  the UK  euro millions with thte exra millions in  raffles, , and the  canandian lotto max, whenre anything over $50 mill i think goes into extra draws, NOW they are on the right track.

peronally id rather see 500 people made millionaires ea week, than 1 person win a half a billion.

Sounds interesting but I don't think it's going to happen. All the other Countries would be mad cause America would always win lol.

There was talk of a US/Canada game a while back and the currency exchange was figured out and it was ready to go until the war against terrorism nixed it.  If you look through some old news or topics from about 10 years ago on here you will find it.

I want a Lottery Jackpot to be so (whether its worldwide or one we have now) that if 10 people should win that Jackpot each would still have Apprx $100million after all taxes.

                            China would hack it.

And then we'd send them a stern letter saying they'd better stop that or we'll be forced to send them another stern letter.

I wouldn't be a player on that one.
