Why is it that when checking your losing lottery tickets- the machine always says " Sorry"?

Really?  They must have different Machines down there.

When we check the tickets up here our machines say "Just how stupid are you?  You know we don't sell winners that far north duhhhhhhhhhhhh"Wink

Maybe you should take you business south of the border to Ohio, they don't sell many winners but they don't call the losers stupid either.

 * you don't need to buy more tickets, just buy a winning ticket *

    noise-gate,

Yeah, Illinois has 'SNAW' - Sorry Not A Winner

Would you prefer they say something like, "Try again, space cadet, you are space cadet, try again" like the old arcade video game?

    Gort? Gorf? Something like that.

Those who run the lotteries love it when players look for consistency in something that's designed not to have any.

    Lep

There is one and only one 'proven' system, and that is to book the action. No matter the game, let the players pick their own losers.

It was just a point of discussion CT- nothing to go overboard over.Much like sitting in a restaurant and receiving the  wrong meal, when you call the waiter over, first words out of his/ her mouth " l am sorry"..Really?
      Goodnight to you.

Was just making an observaion about your observation, noise-gate.

And I'm still wondering what you would prefer them to say.

        Cheers.

Simply " Not a Winner".. Drop " Sorry" its not necessary.

Actually in the gambling business things like Sorry Not A Winner are known as "sympathy calls"...... the lottery does it for PR but it gets crap dealers on the stick yelled out (because there are people betting the Don't).

            I'm just wondering, do Calif. scannrs says "Congratulations you won $ _ _ _" or just "You won $ _ _ _"?

Messages you'd like to see might make a good poll.

I know here in California those terminals are unforgiving and to the point.Do you truly think the lottery establishment is Sorry you lost out?

              * Have a Great weekend People. .

I've seen both messages, "Sorry, not a winner" and "Not a winner" on the same scanner so it might depend on the game. We have self serve vending machines and a losing ticket will show a red box, but if the ticket was previously scanned and paid, the red box will have a line through it. I thought it would be funny if the message said "Did you really think we would pay twice?".

For winning tickets, there is an option to add the credits, but only tickets can be purchased with the credits so if you don't want $20 worth of tickets, take the larger value tickets to the clerk. The machine doesn't give change and anyone inserting $20 must buy $20 worth of tickets too. Play slips for any game can be used in the machines and the machine offers QPs without a play slip.

I'd rather read on scanner "Sorry not a winner" than having a clerk say it when the ticket was actually a winner.

Be glad it doesn't display " you have been eliminated!" or "Ahha! You are on the FBI most wanted list...hands up and back up against the wall!
