Well I simply remember my favorite things
And then I don't feel so bad.
Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens
Bright copper kettles and warm woolen mittens
Brown paper packages tied up with strings
These are a few of my favorite things
Cream colored ponies and crisp apple streudels
Doorbells and sleigh bells and schnitzel with noodles
Wild geese that fly with the moon on their wings
These are a few of my favorite things
Girls in white dresses with blue satin sashes
Snowflakes that stay on my nose and eyelashes
Silver white winters that melt into springs
These are a few of my favorite things
When the dog bites
When the bee stings
When I'm feeling sad
I simply remember my favorite things
And then I don't feel so bad

If you absolutely have to win something then play the Numbers game (First 3, Any order) and you will win more often than on scratch tickets and the big games (PB, MM, MB, MC, L4L). The problem with this is you have to fill a whole lot of slips and the payout is rather small. If you don't believe me try the predictions board for a week and see for yourself. Its free

Actually, with Scratch games you will both win more often and win back a higher percentage than any draw/online games.
Scratch games give you around 1-in-3 to 1-in-4 chances of winning anything. And they have a total payout upwards of 70% or more whereas most draw games only have 50% total payout, and much higher odds of winning anything at all.
Draw games cannot compare to Scratch games which gives you a 25-30% hit ratio and sustained 55-65% payout after a couple hundred plays, without even hitting any of the top prizes.

You're not alone shyguitar... its been said here many times before by others... If you're expecting to win decent prizes, you'll most likely be very disappointed.
If you feel you're losing too much, too often... take a break or at least cut back.
While there are some things you can do to improve your odds with scratchers, IMO... it all comes down to "dumb luck" in the end on those higher tier prizes. Those towns and stores you've been trolling and coming up dry at... the day you quit that town or store might be the day "Jane or Dick" walks in and buys a respectable winner and it may likely be their first time buying a ticket ever- awww shucks
Jon D's post is interesting on the long haul percentages...
The advice of senior posters here recently penetrated my thick skull... run away when those pretty little scratcher Sirens call out from behind the counter or at the machine.
Unless of course, you can afford to run that gauntlet over the long haul. Seems to me, unless you're one of the lucky few, you have to pour an awful lot of cash into those scratcher games before you get a decent chance at recouping a respectable percentage of your losses.
Or perhaps I've broken one too many mirrors throughout the course of my life...

Scratchers are indeed very dangerous and potentially addictive, and you can lose a lot more playing them.
It's their deceptive nature of having easy wins, high payouts and instant feedback that sets them apart from draw games, where you may have to wait a few days for feedback, and you know your wins are few and far between.
But I don't play them like most people, hardly ever scratch them in store, and set a stop loss limit. I also track and analyze them in great detail. There's a lot more nuance and complexity to scratch games than most people think.
Many lottery players think of scratch games are like slot machines, as purely random luck with no strategy. But in fact, the opposite is true. Draw/lotto games are more like slots, and scratch games are more like table/card games.
Casino games give you a very high return like 90-95% or more, way better than lottery 50-60% typically. But casino games can be played very fast, up to hundred of hands/plays per hour, so it can grind you down and lose a lot of money despite the high payouts. Scratch games can too if you don't watch out.

Hey Jon D! Well said

I believe you when you make that statement... that part is most difficult for me to wrap my head around... they way they are distributed, never really having a true grasp on sales pace (timing, markets/location), when will they pull the game and how many top tier prizes will go unawarded... I'm sure I'm missing more, but you get the point.
So my ignorance is why I say "dumb luck".
I feel your pain shyguitar! Hopefully your time will come... just pace yourself...

Hi sully16,
Good advice. I do take breaks from playing and always feel better when I spend less on the lottery. Just was hoping to be able to win something when I play.

Hi Ronnie316,
You have a good point about the saving all your money. These last 6 months of playing less I've felt a lot better about being able to handle the losing on the tickets, would just like to win something though.
