Hi everyone,

Just curious what people's thoughts are if you would continue playing the lottery if you won 1 million on a scratch ticket or a draw ticket? Just read about the Indiana woman who won 500,000 in 2008 and just recently won 1 million on another scratch ticket. I would continue to play if I won 1 million. Since my luck is very bad I'm doubting that I would ever be in that kind of a position, lol. Since some people do continue to win again it makes sense for them to try. Now if I ever won a lottery worth 10 million or more then I would probably stop playing. It's different when you win something like 1 million because if it's on a scratch ticket and you take the lump sum then you automatically are already starting off with less than 1 million and that's before taxes.  I just think some people seem to have better luck when it comes to winning again since it's such a low occurance for a jackpot winner to win another big jackpot. I'm still waiting for a decent win over 5 dollars, lol.

I would continue playing if I won $1 million. That's not a heck of a lot of money.  If I won a bigger jackpot, then I doubt I would continue buying lottery tickets as my job would be done.

I would continue playing,  a million dollars out here in California would buy one an outhouse- depending on where one lived, but in all seriousness it takes more than a million to retire on unless one has a pretty good nest egg in place  prior to the win.

          Hi dallascowboyfan,

Seems you agree with me about playing yet your husband would be fine with 1 million. Don't get me wrong I would be thrilled winning 1 million but after taxes are taken out and if you take the lump sum on a scratch ticket it's far less. It would be a tremendous help but wouldn't be able to retire on it, therefore I would keep on playing. I remember that woman who won in Texas she was a former professor of math at Stanford and a Statistician, I believe. Some people thought because she was so good at math that she had an edge. Maybe luck was just on her side.

I can't think of a reason not to continue to play.

I'd continue to play for sure.  It's too much fun to quit, LOL.

Playing the lottery ain't like a job I hate that I'd wanna quit if I won.

                      I enjoy it, that's why I play.

And I'd still enjoy it if I had more money.

                      Why would I quit?

                      Might even play more.

I would continue to play w/any win under 10 MILS. clear,

but w/a bigger win than that why quit ? now you can afford It so much more.

It's a much smaller part of your net worth, however, I would still have a budget.

Me neither, at this point It's almost like breathing, but the expected MM change ?

Well that would be just 1 game not total quit.

I probably will keep my trap shut, nothing to be gained long term

and short term loss has high potential.
