Texas Lottery

Four drawings per day starting Sept. 9

By Todd Northrop

In a few weeks, Texas Lottery players will have twice as many opportunities per day to play the Pick 3 and Pick 4 games.

Currently, both of the popular daily numbers games are drawn twice per day, at 12:27 pm and 10:12 pm. Starting September 9, four drawings per day will occur at 10:00 am, 12:27 pm, 6:00 pm, and 10:12 pm.

A year ago the Texas Lottery introduced a new game called All or Nothing, which broke new ground for the lottery as a four-drawing-per-day game. The concept was popular with players, and so now it is being expanded to Pick 3 and Pick 4.

"When we launched the All or Nothing game in September 2012, we quickly learned that the new morning and evening draw times were popular with players," explained Texas Lottery Commission Executive Director Gary Grief.

The 6:00 pm evening drawing proved to be especially significant to that game's success.

"The Texas Lottery believes the new evening time appeals to commuters who are making stops at retail stores on their way home," said Grief. "Texas Lottery retailers have been very enthusiastic about the foot traffic the new drawing times have created in their locations."

Tickets go on sale for the first time for the 4 daily draws on Sunday, September 8, with the first drawing on Monday, September 9 at 10:00 am.

Pick 3 and Pick 4 games are drawn every day except Sunday.

The All or Nothing game, which has been on hiatus for about 3 months due to a prize payout flaw, is due to resume sales on Sunday. (See Texas Lottery bringing back All or Nothing game, Lottery Post, Aug. 6, 2013.)

It will be especially helpful for those Texans who spend their day checking lottery results.

Now the players will have twice as much tracking to keep up with. Is that good or bad?

One thing I don't like about the change is that I won't be able to choose which draw I want to play on the playslip. Right now, I can choose day or night. When it changes, whenever I play it will be for the next draw. If I want to play multiple draws it will have to be consecutive draws instead of multiple day draws or multiple night draws.

When they started All  or Nothing I wrote an email to Michelle Byrd telling her that I and other players want the option to pick which draw we could play. She replied that she would refer it to the products manager to look into it. Guess we'll see what happens. They did mention it at the commissioners meeting this month, but that's it.

If it is as you say, then it will be bad, a person should be able to choose which draw he or she wants to play.

I think that they should also have as an option 25 cents plays for $20 box and $125 straight wins.

BAD.

I can hardly keep up with two draws per day.

Isn't this the same state that not too long ago voted to ban Lottery in TEXAS?

What happened? they reversed that decision and then turned on the Nuclear Naplam Nimcompoop Afterburns?

You can choose which draw you want to play, but you have to have the clerk manually enter the data on the touchscreen terminal.

Some clerks are more apt to do that than others.

There is hardly anytime between the drawings for morn/noon.

Texas better get some online gambling if they want to make it convenient for players.

Between AON, and this move, little tent lottery communities will begin to pop up around bodegas all over the state.   That way people dont have to have go home and back to the store 8 times a day.

Well, there is a faction of state lawmakers in Austin that have always hated the lottery and gambling. That's why we don't have casinos in Tx. Right after they voted to end the lottery, someone noticed that they would have to make up about 5 billion dollars a year in new taxes. Ooops. Ok, we keep the lottery.

Our lawmakers are no different than the ones in any other stae, or Washington for that matter. They're all idiots.

I remember in the late 90's we had one eveing draw in Florida and Georgia had pick 3/4 twice a day an I was so jealous. I wished we had twice a day drawings in Florida. Then we got it and it was so hard to watch for trends and patterns and  I lost twice as much. When we had one draw a day, I was able to get hits easier. So good luck to the Texas players who will soon learn. More drawings equal more money for the Taxas lottery not the players.

As a Texas Lottery player I am not overly
thrilled about the new changes, I see it as
a "BIG" win-win for TLC and most likely not
so for the players. Well we will see if this will
be gaming at it's finest or a headache!!

Yep,

Draw to draw strategy could be difficult for players to keep up with.

Players will have other choices of strategy. Pick a draw and track strategy just for that draw.  The other choice could be combine all draws for data keeping and find keeper combinations to be played.

Individual draws have their own stats and combined draws will show their own stats.

rcbuckeye,

"When it changes, whenever I play it will be for the next draw. If I want to play multiple draws it will have to be consecutive draws instead of multiple day draws or multiple night draws."

That's exactly what Illinois did with Lucky Day Lotto (Pick 5/39). The Pick 3 and 4 playslips have options of Midday, Evening, or Both but the Pick 5 is just as you stated above. Since they added the Mid-day draw $300,000 and $400,000 jackpots are showing up more frequently so I would guess a lot of people are doubling up on their play.

I JUST WANTED TO ADD A LITTLE SOMETRHING here to this NEWS....FIRST OF ALLL....They are not using APPLES..ORANGES, LEMONS AND GRAPEFRUITS to make their drawings...

They are using BALLS that has  a SEQUENCE OF 0-9 on every set of balls...AND THAT MEANS ITIS ONE PIC 3 GAME AND THATS ALL..it will  have 4 drawings INSTEAD OF 2...BUT IT IS STILL JUST ONE PIC 3 GAME...

NOW...HOW MANY of you have researched the midday draws and find something only to see it show in the evening..or find something missing in the evening game only to have it show during the midday game...

MY ADVICE TO YOU is RUN ALL 4 DRAWINGS TOGETHER AS ONE GAME...and yes the past data you have will have NO EFFECT on those extra games...THE VERY FIRST DAY they have 4 drawings,,WRITE THEM DOWN AS 4 DRAWINGS...next day...add the other 4...next day add the other 4...

NOW WHEN YOU FIND SOMETHING MISSING you have to play it in all 4 draws...now if you live close to a store you could play what you find missing one game at a time...its possible it could show in the first drawing..and then you wouldnt need to play it in the other 3...unless you think it might repeat...

NOW that is what I would do if I lived in Texas..also...Texas is taking out 8 pretest draws per 2 paying draws...if they use the same drawing pattern...YOU WILL BE DEALING WITH 16 DEAD DRAWS A DAY to 4 paying draws...32 dead draws to 8 paying draws for TWO DAYS...48 DEAD DRAWS to 12  PAYING DRAWS for THREE DAYS....

YOU ARE GOING TO LOSE A WHOLE BUNCH OF STUFF YOU FIND MISSING and THE GRAT STATE OF TEXAS is going to suck as much MONEY out of your pocket as they can!!!!!!!1

And to add to your point   lotterybraker....

The current set of Pick3 & Daily 4 Balls Since 6/1/12 ... will be replaced the first week of September, according to the Texas Lottery watchdog site  <snip> ....

"The Texas Lottery plans to replace the balls and machines
in Sept 2013 for Pick3 and Daily4 . This is most likely when they
will begin conducting 4 draws per day for Pick3 and Daily 4"

I plan to reset my databases to start that first week to begin the new tracking.

Some people see this as a great move, but I don't get it. I don't believe that doubling the amount of drawings is going to increase the amount of players in Texas, if anything I think it's just going to dilute the number of current players spread out over 4 times rather then 2 times a day.

Good luck to the people participating in the Pick 3 and Pick 4 games played twice. Illinois has done this feat already.

Is it really a CONGRATULATIONS for us.  Texas is the only state know that very seldomly sees triples.  Now with two exta draws a day twelve a week  if we are not seeing triples we know that there is some hanky panky going on.  This should mean more triples and quads.  The down fall is that most people are at work during play times for the early morning draws so I'm just saying get those triples and quads the night before for those of you who only play triples and quads.  now instead of $10 a draw you are looking at $40 per day if you are already not ever hitting on them how long will one continue to play them and never get a win.

My starter pair for the week is 44 last seen 8-16 944  Check Texas pick 3 for suggestions on pair info.  Want to mak sure I put the info in the right place...don't need my hand spanked by Todd....lol

Players will definitely love this, they will have more chances of winning since there will be more drawings. I just wonder what will happen to the prize if there will be more winners? I hope there will be more players so the prize will not be compromised.
