Lately, things haven't been going my way. I graduated from college in December 2012 and have spent this entire year looking for full-time employment. Finally got an opportunity to begin training at a company for a full-time position at the beginning of December of this year. I have been playing jackpot lottery games for 6 years now and have won no more than $5 on Powerball/ Mega Millions at most 5 or 6 times in all that time. I put some effort into developing strategies that never work, and have given up on strategies and simply play QP to no avail. I mostly play inconsistenly as I cannot afford even to play up to $5 a week consistently so I only play Florida Lotto over $25m, Powerball over $100m, and Mega Millions over $120m. I have been receiving financial assistance from my parents to help pay for my rent and my food for the past 6 months. This economy is tough to find good work, even with a college degree. I look at the lottery as a small chance, a glimmer of a possibility of once and for all, winning and fulfilling my dreams. I don't depend on the lottery (as I have said I have been seeking employment and playing very little) but I do HOPE that one day the prize can be mine. However, lately, I know the odds are astronomical but someone out there is that one who beats the odds and wins every few weeks. Someone who believed the odds to be too large to win, actually wins. I just want that to be me. But as I go to purchase my ticket for the Florida Lotto and Mega Millions on Tuesday, I will be purchasing them realizing my better odds of picking a perfect NCAA bracket, dating a supermodel, becoming a pro athlete, or winning an academy award. I feel down and defeated. I will continue to purchase tickets when they meet my criteria of play but just can't bring myself to imagine the feeling I picture of winning, to actually become a reality.  Unhappy

One Day.
...but actually probably never.

...Someone's going to win eventually...

...Never know, could be me...

Yeah realizing someone out there other than me has won. Knowing that I spent all my energy praying hoping and explaining why I want to win hasn't done anything to make it come true. It's not that I don't do anything besides just playing the lottery - look for jobs, coming up with ideas for a business and other things. I want a whole new beginning. I haven't slept well in ages because of the noise factor here. I want to travel and experience new things. And just live life. I'm spent...

It's ok to get a little down sometimes. But after allowing yourself some "down" time, think positive thoughts. I struggle too with negative thinking. Just don't let it consume you.

I'm 59. My second child, a daughter just graduated last December also. She got a job in Austin pretty quick, but the pay is not very good. So Mama and I help her by covering her car and health insurance, and cell phone bill (she's on our plan). And occasionally I'll need to transfer $ to her bank account. It doesn't help that she's not very good at budgeting and controlling her spending. (Austin is pretty much party central).

So I worry about her and her future, but I do think in time she will find better employment and be ok. Sometimes it's hard to see the light at the end of the tunnel.

If you have a degree, you will be ok in time. I never went to college. I make an ok living selling furniture. Commission sales is a two edge sword. There are times that I make great money. There are some times that I think we're gonna be living under a bridge. LOL not really, but it does get a little scary).

Keep your head up. You'll be ok. Have fun playing the lottery. Do not count on winning a jackpot. But you never know. Last month someone bought a winning Texas Lotto ticket at a gas station just around the corner from the store I work at. All my co-workers thought it was me! Next time it might be me!

Lottonick, you sound like you are doing better than average.  You managed to get a job and many grads are working at Starbucks.  You have parents to help you out and not everyone does. I graduated some time ago when everyone had jobs lined up by the time they graduated or shortly afterwards.  I think my generation is the last one to enjoy those times and no one's job is guaranteed anymore (no matter how many degrees one has). I think you will do well at your new job!

Very encouraging words, Artist, thank you. Unfortunately, I think you are correct about your generation being the last to enjoy those times. Thank you for the encouragement in my new job. Approve

Anything can happen in the lotto nick.  I myself have been waiting 17 years to win a major prize in powerball and 3 years for mega millions.  I don't get down too much when someone wins though because my time will be the next one.  That is the way you have to look at lotto the next time it will be you.  When I don't win I just get another ticket and say to myself it is my time to win this time around.  Good luck to you nick and keep on buying lotto because you never know when you could win.-weshar75

LottoNIck56, sorry to hear you're feeling hopeless but can turn it around and start thinking positive.   I don't know if you play the pick 4 but just looking at the last two months you can get pr.hits your state does it just as much as MO. It's small but it's a win, give it a try when you're able to financially.  If you need any help with pick 4 inbox me.  gl

Example: 11/02 mid 2830  80 pr came back in front  11/03 eve 8096

                             11/6  mid 3672  73 pr came back in front 11/6  eve 7313

Remember to flip 6's 9's, mirror front and end #'s, and do front/back3 for a hit!

                Hi LottNick56,

Congratulations on getting a job.in this lousy economy. Sounds like you have loving parents and that's a great thing. When it comes to playing the lottery I still believe it's just plain luck. Some people can play for 30 years or so and never win anything and then you hear of a person who only occasionally plays MM or PB and wins the jackpot. Like yourself I too have struggled with the feelings you convey (and I'm much older than you). I've been feeling better since I've stepped away from playing the lottery as much as I did.  Truth is so many people are struggling in this world and would love to win a jackpot but with odds being astronomical only a tiny percentage of people can win.  My mindset has gone back to what it had been before I started playing the lottery 3 to 4 years ago. I'm not stopping my playing just being more smart about it and saving myself money by playing far less frequently. Good luck to you, hope your job is all you want it to be.

Times like these will test anyones sanity and emotions...but what Ive found to get me thru times like these is I focus on what I have and what went right rather than what I dont have or went wrong....Like Wow thank goodness my car started today or thank goodness I have a car. Thank goodness I have a place to stay, food to eat, thank goodness I dont have a dibilitating illness etc. etc....When you recognize the good it makes the bad  not seems so bad

I know exactly how you feel. I actually calculated in one particular game that I managed to land a near 5 standard deviation occurence on the losing side. Had a laugh about my luck after that one LOL

"However, lately, I know the odds are astronomical but someone out there is that one who beats the odds and wins every few weeks."

When the jackpots reach certain levels and more tickets are sold, there are some times over a 50% probability of the jackpot being won. That never changes the odds of your one ticket matching the drawn numbers, but the odds of someone winning the jackpot are much better so while the winner "beat the odds", having a winning ticket was over 50% probable.

The astronomical jackpots are created because of the astronomical odds and I can't think of one logical reason why anyone should expect to win one of those jackpots. It's worth a buck or two just for the dream, but anyone expecting to get more than a dream is the real dreamer. MM now has the best odds of any of the huge jackpot games of winning something, but that's only a 6.67% chance of winning back your bet. That 1 in 15 chance is the same whether you buy 15 tickets or 1, but if you play one bonus number with 15 lines using all 75 numbers and match it, you're guaranteed to win $5. The odds against matching 3 numbers (using all 75 numbers) is 51 to 1, the payoff is $50 and the odds against matching 4 numbers is 3522 to 1 with a $5000 payoff.

Betting more money on MM and PB too gives a better chance of winning something, but if that something doesn't cover the cost of the bet, it's a waste of time and money. The best advice is to look at price of a ticket as the cost of dreaming about spending the winnings because 99.999996% of all ticket sold will never win a jackpot.

Can you make a system from a completely random event? Maybe do lucky dips and then see how your luck changes?
