In most states it takes at least 3 weeks for the cash to be collected by the State lottery from the time of claiming. Plus a day or week to be wired to your account, so it would take several weeks for the cash to actually hit your account. Might as well start that process ASAP.

Three weeks? I guess the California Lottery misplaced that Memo...

So you are implying that it doesn't take three weeks for a state to collect the money? if that is the case then some jackpot winner can collect the next business day.

Perhaps that simple clarification should be placed in the memo.

California winner's handbook says 6-8 weeks is what he's talking about

Before the expiration date. I play in Ga and SC, if I won in SC I'd claim it immediately because of the anon option.

I am a $20,000 winner from a Georgia Lottery scratch off game called "$3,000,000 Taxes Paid"!

I would wear a Tuxedo just like Mike Pace did. He was the host of Power Ball awhile back.

I am also thinking about taking the Annuity option. I am not in a rush to claim my prize.Party

As soon a possible. Lot's a bad things could happen to the ticket if I wait.

The anon option only applies if you are a resident of SC.  If you are not, then if a claim is made under the freedom of information, your name will be revealed.  Happened to a NC winner who won in SC before NC had the lottery.

I am probably going to contact the Atty in the above link and handle it the way these people did in my state. I will definitely move into an undisclosed rental someplace before the big collection date.

However long it takes to nest several trusts, LLCs, and FLPs together is how long it will take me to claim when I win. One month? Two months? Six weeks?

Probably pretty quickly. I'd want to get out of my neighborhood as soon as possible!

I Agree!  I agree with this as well. However I would also include how long it would take for me to relocate.  I'd want all of my belongings n such out of the old place and into storage if need be, while I figure it all out.  I wouldn't want to have to return to my old neighborhood to do anything....just in case neighbors, family, or camera crews are waiting.....

Recent jackpot winners have come forward within hours or days- what would be your preference? Would you get all your ducks in a row with Attorneys and the like or just decide " since l won l will come forward, get it over with and then fade to black".. so to speak?

My attorney will be the one claiming it.

I would claim as soon as possible after finding legal representation and setting up a trust. It is better to claim early so the media circus will die down quickly. Just give really boring explanations for what you will do with the money and people will soon forget you and move on to the next big winner.

                          I Agree!
