Stack47, A lawyer is the first that I will contact. After I tell a few trusted family members. music*
"A lawyer" or your personal lawyer that you knew for years?
It's the same with a financial planner, if you don't have one before hitting the jackpot, you're still talking to a total stranger.

When you hit the big jackpot you will contact a company such as US Trust, Northern Trust, Wells Fargo Private Bank, Chase Private Bank, etc. They handle High Net Worth and Ultra High Net Worth Individuals. You will develop a plan for your investments, a plan they must adhere to since they are regulated to a higher degree than Joe Investment Advisor with offices down at the local strip mall. The cost (BPS) will be higher than Joe, but well worth the service provided. They will also be able to point you in the direction of attorneys specializing in the needs of HNW/UHNWIs. Looking toward a productive 2015!

eh. Probably not. Depends on how large it is. I have a career, am very marketable and can always work. If I spent all my money I would have my professional skills to fall back on. it's only money.

I would definitely invest & never touch the principle! I'm only 39 & want to retire now, so I'd need my $ to potentially last me another 50 yrs.

I would invest some of the money. I am fairly young and I want to own several businesses. I also want to focus full time on writing.
