Well if New York is pulling a winning combination every time and I'm pulling a losing combination every time, explain how that's possible?  Cheats that's how.

Just keep playing and hope you get lucky.  That's all any of us can do.  If you really think there's cheating--quit buying tickets.

Just like people who work hard and succeed, they should be punished by the Government taking away their money and giving it to crack heads and lazy bums.( Extreme sarcasm)

Thats the direction the Country seems to be going in...

      http://www.powerball.com/pb_contact.asp

HOW COME THE ONLY JACKPOT WINNERS ARE FROM THE [EAST - WEST - NORTH - SOUTH - CITIES - RURAL AREAS]?
HOW COME ONLY [WHITE, BLACK, TALL, SKINNY, YOUNG, OLD] PEOPLE WIN?

Powerball is a random game that knows nothing about who buys a ticket or where a ticket is purchased.   Why do the same few states often consistently win, if powerball is truly random and knows nothing about where a ticket is purchased?

There really is no white/black/old/young/rich/poor, etc.] button on the machine.

If one draws a box around some group of players (eg., state border, hair color, shoe size), then that group of players will win in proportion to their play. If the defined group buys 10% of the tickets, then they will win 10% of the prizes - on average and over a reasonable period of time.

So then the game really isn't so random.

But that does NOT mean that you have a better chance of winning in a bigger box - you then just have more folks to play against.  Yet california wins far too often

The Law of Large numbers explains how random expectations become truer as the number of occurrences increases. So, if players in a particular group buy 8.6754% of the tickets, then we will find, if the number of occurrences (prizes awarded) are large enough, that those players win 8.6754% of the prizes.

      Sounds like deflecting

This is definitely true for the low-tier prizes where there are large numbers of winners. With 12 to 15 jackpot winners in a year, we would expect that these percentages can get out of sync with sales from time to time, but as the number of jackpot winners continues to increase, we will find that the percentage numbers move closer and closer to being the same number.

Try this experiment. Flip a coin four times. You might get 75% heads - or even 100%. You would not expect to get excited about that. With only ten flips, it can happen. But then flip it 1,000 times (no cheating). You will come much closer to the statistical expectation of 50% heads. If you hit 75% heads after 1,000 flips, then something is wrong. It really does NOT make any difference where you buy your ticket. It is you a against the draw machine.

      More excuses and deflecting.

Is this why people say the lottery is a tax on the stupid?

Does anybody know if the store terminals are connected to a central mainframe  for all states to pick quick pick numbers?

If a state wins a PB or MM drawing, sales of either game should be shut down for one year in that state. This gives anyone not in New York a fair shot at winning, and it shuts down cheats.

It probably never occurred to you PB and MM will lose revenue from NY ticket sales along with any other states that might hit twice in one year. Seriously, what made you believe your idea makes any sense?

The terminals in each state are connected to state lottery's mainframe (ever wonder why they know when a pick-3 number is sold out?). Do you think the terminals are connected to the machine that draws the PB and MM numbers too?

How very interesting.  So those quick picks could be picks by the main frame to avoid hitting winning numbers.

Wait a minute! Is the author of this thread the infamous JJ? He built his reputation on LP by declaring jackpots are too easy to win. Now he is calling on Congress to pass a Whiner's law?

Whaaa? So a state should be punished because it has a bigger population therefore a bigger chance of winning? NOT!

Or like raising health care premiums on the same people, so the I don't feel like working or making good choices people can have a bowl of ice cream with a cigarette and a beer for breakfast can continue making bad choices and everyone else can pay the doctor bills.
