Went to go get PB and MM tickets for the coming Tuesday and Wednesday draws and I was told by the clerk she could sell me whatever I wanted BUT POWERBALL as sales have been stopped effective JULY 01.  That was all she knows.

Is Washington dropping out of Powerball?

My post is a little confusing, sorry.  It is the July 01 date that is the issue.  the clerk told me they already got the notification that NO tickets are to be issued after JULY 01.  It just so happened it is the date of the Powerball drawing.  It is a budgetary issue and The Lottery is one of many programs to be shut down.

All the stories I am finding on line are about a week old and most say how the state will get this taken care of.  Well guess what?  THEY HAVE ALREADY CEASED SELLING TICKETS JULY 1ST ON.  WHAT A CROCK.

Forget the 26,000 state employees who’ve received notifications of pending furloughs July 1st. if legislators don’t come up with a state budget.  The Lottery would also stop!

According to various reports, if a budget is not signed off on by 12:01am July 1st, all operations of the Washington’s Lottery will be put on hold.  Retailers have already received notifications about when sales of tickets will stop.  Thanks to Mr. Lee at the Shopping Spot on 28th in Pasco, Lottery retailers were sent a rather cryptic warning when they filed recent sales reports.

According to the Lottery various tickets will stop selling June 27th, which include Powerball, then Mega Millions, Match 4 and Daily Keno will stop June 30th.

If you really like Lotto and Hit 5, then your last day to buy them will be June 29th.  Granted, we will probably wind up like last year, when the very last day of June a budget deal was reached.  But this news is enough to strike fear into the hearts of loyal Lottery players everywhere.   A number of other government operations would be affected as well.

Time to remove some folks who are in charge of running this enterprise.

That player who has been playing the same PB numbers for years will be breaking into cold sweat wondering what if. I feel sorry for them.

                Washington state budget agreement reached!

Early Saturday morning, it was announced that Gov. Jay Inslee and legislative leaders have made an agreement "in principal" on a two-year operating budget, a deal reached after months of debate.

"This agreement ends the threat of a government shutdown on July 1!"

Hello, valued Washington’s Lottery Players’ Club member.

How a state government shutdown will affect Washington’s Lottery:

As of this communication, there has not been an agreement on the state budget.  If a budget agreement is not reached by June 30, 2015, Washington’s Lottery will halt operations.

During a government shutdown, the gaming system will be disabled; no drawings will be conducted.  Retailers will be prohibited from selling or redeeming any Lottery tickets (Scratch or Draw) until further notice.

It is important, as always, that you have signed the back of your tickets and stored them in a secure location.

It is our hope that the state government reaches a budget agreement.

Thanks for your understanding and continued support during this time.  If you have any specific questions regarding this potential shutdown, please visit

So what happens if you won the Powerball jackpot last year and went with the annuity? If the government hadn't reached a deal and the lottery was put on hold and lets say you were suppose to receive your next annual check on July 2nd....

Excellent question.  I sometimes think about taking the annuity for smaller jackpots.  For instance I currently have tickets in Floridia and they say that the lottery invests the money in the name of the state and then the state board of administration releases the funds to the winner when the investment matures.  My guess would be if everything was shut down you would not get your money.

I think I am firmly in the cash camp again.
