Hi! Smile

Everyone says that you when you win the Powerball/MegaMillion Jackpot, you have to move.  I understand why and, if I win, I plan to move to another state within the US.  As a I have dual nationality, I will also live somewhere within the EU. It's not that I'm being secretive, it's just that I haven't decided exactly where yet.

If you hit it big in the lottery, how far would you want (or be willing), to move?  Somewhere within the state you currently reside, one or two states over, or clear across the country? Why?

Anyone plan to move abroad? If so, where? Why?

I sometimes think it would be fun to spend a year traveling the world while deciding where to anchor down. Does that sound like fun to anyone else? A couple of my relatives told me that just the idea of traveling for a year, did not sound the least bit appealing to them.

I am also curious about big travel plans anyone may have.  If you win big, you would be able to vacation anywhere!

You would be able to travel as much as you wanted.  Where you go? How would you get there? Where would you stay?

How long would you stay? Where would you travel to next? After that?

I'm always ready for a new adventure!

Thanks! Smile

Did a jackpot winner say "you have to move" or did they move to a much nicer home?

Absolutely I would move and move out of this state.  Move some where there is no freezing temps, ice and snow.  It would still be on the left (west) coast.  The only reason to "visit" the other left coast (east) is family, no desire to move or live there.  Same with the midwest, visit only.  Move abroad?  Nah, visit only, as bad as America is getting, there is no place like home in the Good Ole U.S.A.

I do, however, love British Columbia, Canada, maybe get a dual citizenship there, winning the lottery and having the money to be accepted there?  Something to consider.

Agree it would be fun to travel but already know where I want to live.  Traveling wouldnt be a constant though.  I am a homebody.  Having the money to plan a trip and not having to worry about the cost would be glorious.  A place I would love to visit, albeit scary, is Israel.  Any travel would be first class or charter and staying in five star hotels, no more discount accommodations for me, I have had a lifetime of that.  I dont think I am any different from any other winner, who would stay at a Holiday Express voluntarily?  Lol

There are several places I would like to go; Monaco, Germany, Switzerland, London but not on one trip.  Definately would NOT buy a plane or yacht, no matter how much winnings.

Fun thinking of these things, good post Candy-Lane!

I don't think that there is a "rule" that one must move out of their state.  I have no plans to move when I win the lottery.  I do enjoy traveling especially in Europe so travel will be in my plans.  But as we already have our business here it makes no sense to pack up to live somewhere else.

I would move, I would also travel and live abroad for a few years before I settle down.

Skeptical for me I'd spend the first 6-7 months virtually homeless & travel till,

I found the purr-fect foundation for my dream house

then once settled I'd like to travel to Germany and the UK

I'd definitely travel for a while.  I'd love to buy a motor home or travel trailer and travel the US and Canada for a year or so.

I have a feeling I'd end up living in my state but in a different town in the mountains in the summer, and have a home in Arizona or Nevada for the winter.  Unless I found better options in my travels.  I spend a lot of time outside and don't like humidity, extreme heat, or extreme cold, so that limits my choices for sure.

I'm not sure if I'd be open to living as an ex-pat in another country.  I have no concept of what that would be like.  I do plan on traveling to lots of foreign countries, and if I found one I loved, I might try it for a while.  I'm terrible at languages, so it would probably have to be an English-speaking country.

For me, will rent a suite in a very nice hotel for a couple months until the publicity dies down.  Would be moving to a new home anyway. Whether to cross the state border or not will depend on finding my dream location!  There are certain requirements needed.  Might travel a little bit to see all the national parks.  But most travel will be in the state that I will reside in, mostly from home to town and back.  .... Dont really care to travel but will geocache!!

I would not move to another state.  I'm a foodie and would travel domestically, maybe the Caribbean, to indulge. Would try to visit all the states I haven't been to yet. I don't trust foreign travel right now--too much turmoil.  I would be a boring winner, wouldn't I? Smile

If you plan to move to Europe, chose Monaco or Leichtenstein. There's hardly any taxes there.

I'm not so sure that Candy-Lane meant you have to move as if it's required, but more from the threads here about what to do if you win.......

Change your phone # or get a throw away cell phone, get a P.O. box, leave town for a while, etc...

                      Candy-Lane?

Those who run the lotteries love it when players look for consistency in something that's designed not to have any.

There is one and only one 'proven' system, and that is to book the action. No matter the game, let the players pick their own losers.

I Will definitely move, where I'm not sure but I do know it will be somewhere that doesn't have as high cost of living.

I would also want to move somewhere that I can have lots of land, at least 5 acres.

                            Hi lejardin, Smile

Thanks! I'm glad you liked the post. I wasn't sure if anyone would like it or not but, I decided to post anyway and find out.

What is so good about Western US?  I am afraid my only experiences in Western US are LAX Airport and a trip to the Grand Canyon.  I have always wanted to see Seattle and San Francisco!  I will pass on Las Vegas - it is just not my cup of tea. I am more of a Disney G/PG type. What else is there to see out west?  I don't know but, if and when I win the lottery, I intend to find out! : )

I love your travel choices! Israel, I wanted to go. We once had a 3week cruise where the 3rd week was to include Israel and Egypt but, do to the political upheaval, we couldn't go to those destinations. I am not sure that it would be wise to go there at the moment either. Same for Europe with the exception of the UK ( England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland).

I love Canada. I love Montreal!  There is a beautiful lake up in Montreal that we have gone boating on. Canadians are so nice!

You mentioned Monaco (go during the grand prix) beautiful country, oozing with seriously wealthy people; Germany beautiful;Switzerland, toured the entire country, stayed 5 star hotels, had lunch in Gstaad next to Ivana Trump and kids...yet my favorite memory is when a german speaking cab driver put us out in the middle of the country in german speaking Lucerne. We walked in the country side for hours! Lost, until we finally found a bus stop! It wasn't as quiet as you might think. On the contrary! The many, many, cows were all wearing cowbells. It was actually quite lovely. I love cows!

When you say London, did you mean only London or, London meaning you would like to see England?  London as well as all of Europe has breathtaking architecture! I love touring the cathedrals all over Europe!

What toys would you buy? You said no airplane (I wouldn't buy one either). However, I would buy a small yacht, nothing more than 50ft.  I grew up spending my summers on the water so, I guess it's in my blood.

I am now intrigued to find out more about the Western USA! I am already planning a road trip along the west coast!  Thanks for the inspiration! Smile
