I started off doing it myself years ago and finally ended up using my very good attorney in the end.  It is a process that you can do by yourself, but it is more complicated than just filling out forms so be prepared to invest a good amount of time and patience.  A good lawyer can not only help the process go quicker, but also can help you avoid trying things that will not succeed, so a better chance of getting it right the first time.  But using a lawyer is not cheap, so it's down to your budget and the importance of your mark to you.

So that might have been before Legalzoom.com was established.  Thanks.

So will the bottom of the page change from © to ® or is it the unique logo that is protected?

Does it offer any protection from the thousands of statistics sites that use a site's domain as a sub domain of their site to lure people in only to find borrowed Alexa statistics and ads?

No, the © at the bottom is a copyright notice, which covers content, format, colors, etc. (The Copyright page contains all the particulars.)

The registered trademark ® covers the use of the word mark "Lottery Post", which is now protected.  (It was previously legally "protected" through its long use on this website, but this is now much stronger protection.)  It certainly does protect against people misusing "Lottery Post" (or very similar names) in an attempt to confuse people.

A bit of Lottery Post news today.

As I have hinted with the "®" symbol in the subject of this thread, my epic multi-year quest to register Lottery Post as a registered trademark with the United States Patent and Trademark Office is finally complete!

Today I received my Certificate of Registration for the mark "Lottery Post", under the Principal Register (which affords a great deal of protection to the mark).  One of the benefits to being on the Principle Register is the ability to use the "®" symbol.

Some trademark registrations go much quicker, but for one reason or another Lottery Post took monumental patience and extra effort to achieve.  So glad it's over!

        This is great news, congratulations!

Very impressive what you have accomplished with Lottery Post.  You treat what many people look down on - playing the lottery - as a business and in a professional manner.

Thanks for everything, especially for giving us a positive and professional site to learn and share on. Thumbs Up

                      So, what were the costs?
What is the so called protection?
What is the financial benefit towards the costs?
