Hi!

i was wondering if anyone knew how this would work,

so i missed my first ever payment for a syndicate which i am in and nobody covered it for me so i didn't get included - 30 people.

Could i use all the numbers from our syndicate and buy these myself? its made me super anxious at the thought of a win?

A lottery syndicate is a group of individuals who play the lottery together. you've not answered my question but thanks.

I have been in the syndicate for years and this is the first missed payment ( missed by 1 day ) as soon as i noticed i offered to pay - 1 day after payment was expected.

If you want to play the syndicate's numbers on your own without fear of being sued, just put in writing to whomever runs the syndicate that you are not participating with the syndicate for that drawing because you missed the payment date, and that you're playing the syndicate's numbers on your own with your own money for that drawing. (Indicate the specific drawing date.) Ask for a written response indicating receipt of your note. (This can be done through e-mail, because e-mail can be traced later on, if necessary.)

I would recommend not playing at all for the next drawing.

But if you must play, then I recommend you pick numbers that are NOT the syndicate's set of numbers. Your chances of winning are no different. If you win anything substantial (small prizes could be won by both but no one will care), the syndicate will not win and you will not have to share the jackpot with the syndicate. Likewise, if the syndicate wins, you will not. There is no chance someone will claim shenanigans, because you can't both win for the next drawing.

Does the group play the same numbers all the time or get quick pick tickets?

How would you know what numbers to play if you played on your own?

Is it worth putting up all that money to get the same numbers as the group?

If 30 people put in $10 each, you are talking about a $300 cost.

I would just play those numbers once, keep it for myseld and enter the syndicate next draw again.

A pool might be smart enough to have an agreement that includes a prohibition against members playing the pool's number on their own, as that would dilute the pool's winnings in the unlikely event they win a jackpot.

Absent such a clause there's no certainty how a ruling would go in the event of a lawsuit, but if a member reduced the pool's winnings by playing the same numbers I think there's a pretty good chance that there would be a lawsuit. You don't need a good argument to file the lawsuit, but there's certainly a reasonable argument that even without a specific prohibition members shouldn't risk diluting the value of the pool's tickets by playing the same numbers. It's buying all those tickets that will probably lose that's the real risk.

Of course a good agreement for a pool would anticipate the obviously foreseeable problems A lawsuit is a fairly sure thing if a regular member is excluded from a drawing, so there should be a provision that makes it difficult for a member to miss a drawing because they couldn't chip in during a short window right before a particular drawing.

Do yourself a favor and stop playing with that syndicate. It doesn't bode well that nobody out of 30 covered for you the first time you missed, where's the holiday spirit? LOL.

If it's making you "super anxious" maybe take a break from playing the lottery for a while. It's supposed to be a fun and harmless diversion, not a source of stress.

yes we use the same numbers every week - we only do one day a week -

the draw isn’t until the end of the week ( and one more week after that )

the person who arranged it all said that the reason they can’t add me is because they can’t be bothered as they’re busy.

Although i have offered to pay for the time spent adding me ( just buying my number ) which I offered to log in and do myself.

the agreenmeng doesn’t mention any scenarios like this and so to me, there seems to be no line i wouls be crossing like any other person in the world who uses those line of numbers.

Because I have tried my hardest to enter back in - I think I need to buy the numbers solo - yes everyone would be super annoyed if won ( and I’m a nice person so I would probably share my % with them to even it out again )

but if they win and I am not included at all, then that would affect me. I don’t typically gamble but because it’s a continuous thing, I feel a “ Sod’s law “ coming on.

The probability of winning is the same whether you pick the same numbers or different numbers. But if you pick different numbers, then there is no chance of having to share the jackpot.

If they don't want you back, find another group to play with or start your own syndicate.

Why don't they play every drawing and only once a week? What if their numbers were drawn on the day they didn't play?

It sounds like there's a moron in charge. If the pool plays the same numbers how will they deal with not having your contribution? Either they don't play some of the numbers or they figure out another way to pay for them. I can't imagine how it's more or too much work to just take your money, even if it's a few days later than usual, especially since it sounds like there is (or was) still time before the drawing.

Here's what you do..Randomly pick two numbers of syndicate numbers...Play a key wheel using those two numbers. Play as many tickets that you can afford. As for the rest of the numbers you play...use the syndicate numbers or add in other numbers or do a mix of both..Just change it up. 99.9% they won't win anything significant. So this is your opportunity to mix things up and go against the grain this one time.
