My basic simple math theory for this is : divide the lotto game total numbers by the number of balls chosen, and as a general rule, one will get 1 number correct in your wheel on average if your wheel uses the amount of balls as that answer. In other words by example: Florida Fantasy 5 has 36 numbers/5 = 7.2. So one would get 1 number correct at most on average if your wheel uses only 7 numbers. For Mega Millions, 70/5 = 14. So a wheel using 14 numbers would average just 1 number correct. Now this is if one plays the same numbers in the wheel drawing after drawing. Things improve if the player is tracking numbers, uses stats, charts, lottery programs to select the numbers, and selects new numbers each draw, or maybe just uses a way to draw random numbers to put in the wheel each draw. My personal opinion is the studious player with the charts, etc. will beat the random player with a higher percentage. The thing about wheels is that they guarantee the prize they are made for and will give several lower prizes also and will give some of these lower prizes if the guarantee is not met entirely. The 7 number wheel I described above gives 2 lines with 3 numbers right if I only get 3 numbers right instead of the 4 out of 4. And if I get the 4 out of 4, I also get 5 lines with 3 numbers right. And if I were fortunate to guess all 5 numbers right, I have about a 40% chance that I have a 5 out of 5. Each of the wheels I mentioned above by Howard, Bluskov, Serotic,or Todd all have different combinations arranging the numbers, but still guarantee the basic prize called for. The only real difference in them would be if one were to guess all 5 numbers, one of them might have given you the jackpot combination over the other 3, had you been playing that one. But the whole thing at that point is "luck of the draw". The only wheel that guarantees the jackpot is a "full" wheel with every combination, and those get expensive fast.

The biggest leverage has a jackpot winning single combination played. If for a jp-game, the jp is split between several winners, you want to play that combination more than once to get more of the payout.

Single random outcomes cannot be predicted, that's a rule. That does not mean that you cannot get lucky.

The wheels have one or more guarantees.

The wheels are not all the same. A longer wheel can have the same coverage 3 if 4 than a shorter wheel with 3 if 4 coverage.

Besides that, templates just might be outdated. You can start with a filtered set.

If you play 1-5 matching 2 or 3 and 6-10 matching 2 or 3, you might play this template:

This is still simple. If you use a filter set and you don't want to pick lines from a set with 5000 combinations,
you can let the program make you a quick set of combinations with a chosen coverage. No standard wheel will beat that.
Every combination in the wheel will fit your chosen pattern(s). This requires the device to work a little bit more than replacing pointer numbers from a template of a database.

The other concern with better templates is, replacing the pointer numbers in a better way. Don't just dump your numbers!

Yes, I know, this coverage option is not in SmartLuck and most or nearly all of the sold programs.
Filters are sold in all click-able versions, but custom is still limited. Players come up with filters that are not in the program. ...
It looks like that many now hide their filter options. ... tstst ...
I did a version with VBA, but when it comes to more trials there is better than Visual Basic for Applications. Only, again, more combinations can make you lucky.
12 number wheels for All or nothing can also be done, with conditions <4 and >8 or alike. They are often shorter than the >8.

You still have to admire those who spent time creating these wheels with a minimum of lines.

I read a post on a google page by Ion Saliu showing a positional record wheel and saying that this doesn't hold against a regular x if y wheel.

Well, some positional wheels hold.

The local lotto pays 5 lines for 3/6. If I get 6/18 from 6/45 in correct positions, I get my payback. With a record wheel, I loose 1 line. Of course unless I get lucky, or happy.

So you have those pick 5 wheels and different payouts by state(s).
A Gimme 5 pays 2 for 2/5 and 7 for 3/5 while a Fantasy 5 pays 1 for 2/5 and 15 for 3/5. That changes your views on wheels.

The requests for filtering often involved the choice that the combination hasn't been drawn earlier. That's so naive! A combination drawn can be redrawn any time. Also some combinations have high scores of 4/5 for pick 5. When? I don't have any clue. You play your tickets and I play mine!

So again. We had no straight pick 3 reaching the average high frequency. If you stepped in late enough, you cashed in 2 straight pick 3 in a period of time.

AVG high frequency: last 1000, binomial highest frequency.

See Black Swan by Nassim Taleb. People think that black swans don't happen. ... See fat tail.

A random event in mathematics can't be predicted, that's the definition, but there are techniques and there is luck. I don't know of any mathematical function predicting a future random event. Even if it luckily does, the payout must be higher than the costs. Try roulette. Beat it, can you do that? I want to see your function.
