The Cowboy the Cricket and the Rabbit.
Prior to looking for a new Symbol, for the Ranch, something unexpected happened about a Month ago. Sally and Buddy had a Rabbit Cornered under the water trough. They were not just there for fun. As lovable as Old Sally was, she could tip her head back and swallow one whole it I was approaching telling her NO!. This morning however the duo had cornered a rather resourceful bunny. This little guy had on a green vest with digging tools. The Vest had a picture of a Cricket ridding a Rabbit. There was no way the dogs were going to get this rabbit. In about a minute he was about 3 feet deep in a hole. Dogs could apparently smell or hear where he was going because the kept barking at the ground while moving fairly fast in the direction of the Cricket Barn.
There was a meeting of the Tunnel Committee scheduled to start in about 5 minutes when the Rabbit poked his head up in the middle of the room. The Rabbit was wearing a Yellow hard hat. Between two headlamps there was a logo showing a couple of crickets holding a scroll and pointing at the ground.
The chirp coming from the Barn was something the Boys had never heard before. Usually something this load sounded frantic, like the little guys were scared. This was more like a standing ovation. The boys looked in to find the Rabbit doing a dance while wearing a Light Suit like the Kids from Ukraine they saw on AGT a few days back. On closer inspection the light turned out to be a grid that flashed colors when certain numbers appeared in one of the boxes.
This wasn’t the first time that the Crickets had watched one of these Dances. Most of the little guys had several video links to them on their Cricket Wireless Phone. What had them all worked up was the Dance Moves and the Light Show. Almost all of the Videos and performances the crickets had watched were Robotic. The Moves and Light Flickers were all known. The dance was just a rehash of these old moves. The Old Timers in the Crowd always whispered to each other “these guys are Great”, while the younger guys and girls sat there but, only bobbed their butts up and down. The New dance moves were like nothing they had ever seen. Instead of looking like a game of Tetris, the Light Show was a Mesmerizing Spiral. The Old Guys were elbowing each other and saying “Hypnotic Eye” remembering a horror movie that scared the Crickets out them when they were about 3.
The Crickets began flying out of their seats and landing in one of the grid points on the Jacket. The Cricket Seal Team dropped from spider webs landing on the helmet and quickly gained control of the head Lamps. As the Rabbit spun, more and more crickets jumped aboard until every square was full. Finally, the Rabbit jumped straight up into the air and did a back flip in the pike position and dove head first into the ground and disappeared. The Older Crickets that could not Jump so High began walking in formation into the hole until they were all elbow linked from the line on the surface into the hole. They were pulled like a chain on a ship dropping anchor.
The Boys turned and walked back to the house.
“You know, I am a little worried about the Crickets. There’s a lot of them in there this time. If a Tunnel collapses we would need a whole new bunch to keep the Ranch Going. And thank goodness we got out of the Cattle Business when we did or we’d be finished.” Said Billy.
“After breakfast Jake and I will put some plywood over the holes in the Garden before we clear the Weeds around the New Hole.” Said Sully.
Sally and Buddy were still sniffing the ground under the water trough.
