I am going to cry if you snatch the jackpot away from me before it is big enough for me to buy in with my savings... :) I believe it is reaching the point now that the jackpot is going to start getting much bigger much faster as more people jump on the bandwagon.

And, thanks for the invite to your pool. I am up to my ears with my own "Private Powerball Pool" right now but may be interested when the MM jackpot gets up there to a really large amount. When that happens I will PM you and get your pool manager contact info and as much other info as possible to make a decision on.

Also, I had to go back 2 1/2 years to find the "research" I did about lottery pools and was sadly disappointed at the mess I found. It was basically tons of text files I had just copied from many sources and pasted with almost no organization. As I have just demonstrated, it does not pay to hurry too much.

But, I have found an app at the PortableApps site that will help a lot. It is "The Guide" and It is an outliner app that makes inserting headings and subheadings *much* easier than just trying to copy and paste text files together in a coherent manner. And, <blush> It turns out that I already had the app but had completely forgotten about it among all the other portable apps on my machine and portable drives.

I work on that project some each day so it is going to be a while before it is done. I just can't work 8-10 hours at a time anymore so I just try to concentrate on a coherent organization while being as accurate and thorough as possible as I nibble along at it and make any necessary revisions as I go. I hope to have a professional looking work product that would go a long way to standing up in a court if necessary when I finish.

I may have it finished or nearly so when the MM jackpot gets big enough to PM you about your MM pool. You can look at it and make suggestions about it if you wish.

The Mega Millions jackpot increased by the minimum $10 million to $110 million. It is estimated the current jackpot is under funded from sales by about $14.1 million. The last time the jackpot was $110 million, it was under funded by $4.4 million. The Mega Millions jackpot continues to grow slower than the last run. The difference between the Powerball jackpot and the Mega Millions jackpot increased by $12 million.

Looks to me like we'll have the minimum rollovers through 130 and then probably a hair better than 140, followed by 156ish for drawing # 11. Last time around they advertised 154 for drawing # 10, so this time it's running about 1 drawing behind the last run.

But wait, there's more. Interest rates are up a bit, so the cash values are a bit farther behind. The last time around the advertised $154 million annuity was worth $69 million. Based on the current rates for Tuesday's drawing a $154 million annuity will only be $67.9 million as cash.

I don't have a clue if sales are down because people are increasingly holding off on MM tickets until the jackpot gets (much) bigger, or if it's just people spending their money on a chance at the bigger PB jackpot. As I've said before, MM doesn't care much about sales for every individual draw. They're interested in total annual revenue, and when they can advertise a jackpot of more than $2.04 billion (it will actually take $2.264 billion to beat the $997.6 million cash prize that Edwin Castro claimed) sales will be more than enough to offset the slower sales they're getting right now, unless PB is well over $1 billion at the time.

I paid $20 to join. The pool buys tickets when the Powerball or Mega Millions is very large. The pool ends when it runs out of money.

The Mega Millions jackpot increased by the minimum $10 million to $120 million. It is estimated the current jackpot is under funded from sales by about $8.3 million. In the previous Mega Millions run, the jackpot went from $110 million to $122 million. That is, it was fully funded and did not increase by the minimum. The Mega Millions jackpot is growing slower than last time because it is being over shadowed by the much larger Powerball jackpot. The Powerball jackpot is almost three times larger at $325 million and is the largest Powerball jackpot since the start of the Mega Millions ticket price going to $5.

And/or more of the people who aren't addicted are sitting it out for more general reasons about MM itself.

The sales forecast for Friday are up about 5% over the previous Friday, so maybe we'll see another modest increase for Friday 8/1, too. Based on the last couple of increases we'll almost certainly see it advertised as 130 next Tuesday (funded at about 127) and 8/1 will go up to 142 or 143. That will be $12 million behind the annuity for the 10th drawing of the previous run and the cash value will be about $6.5 million less.

We'll have to wait and see if sales start picking up once we get more than the minimum increases, but unless they pick up significantly the difference at each drawing will increase at least the next 4 weeks or so. If it keeps growing for 6 weeks it should get ahead of the last winning jackpot, and there won't be anything to compare it to for the new game.
