I have been wanting to start a lottery pool for PB/MM/other games for a long time now. But, as I am retired and do not have any "office/work buddies" any longer I have been am unable to locate enough people to make it feasible. I have no family close by and very little contact with anyone else these days, but no pity please, I am one happy individual with this 99% of the time.
I have spent quite a bit of time researching the subject and have sketched an outline (still very incomplete) of what a lottery agreement/contract should contain in order to be fair to all members while simultaneously protecting all members including the administrator of the pool. During the research I have read of*MANY* instances where such an agreement/contract would have prevented *MUCH* grief and legal wrangling for all involved after a win. As of now I have probably only 10% of the necessary work done with it.
I will not list here all of what I have learned and am incorporating into my agreement/contract . And, I am *not* preaching to you or anyone, but here are just a couple important things to think about concerning lottery pools.
01) Payments to the administrator: Someone out sick and fails to pay for a drawing - cover for them or not - are they out for the drawing or out forever? Everyone pays the same for each drawing? Is everyone participating in the drawing recorded and/or has a receipt or is confirmed to the group as participating in a drawing? This one has come up a lot.
02) Ticket purchases: How are numbers/tickets selected? Quick picks or members/administrator choose? Do the pool members get a list/copy/image of the pool tickets before the drawing?
Many, many, many more things should be in a agreement/contract that would really make life easier concerning any disputes should a win occur. One of the things I did was ask Microsoft CoPilot (use any AI that you wish) what should be in a lottery pool agreement/contract. I kept asking CoPilot over and over "Is there anything else?" and it kept giving me more things that should be covered.
Until then I thought I had read enough articles to have a pretty good handle on a agreement/contract but was very surprised at all of the other things that CoPilot brought to my attention. Now I can clearly see that an ounce of prevention is worth a TON of cure.
It is great that you are paying only a few bucks and you are having fun with it. Problems do not come from doing that and it is wonderful that you have trust in your guy. Just do not forget this: The problems usually come after a big win where lots of money makes lots of people do lots of crazy/stupid/cruel things.
Best wishes and good luck with your pool.
