You know what I had the same thing on my laptop.  all the words relted to casinos and odds were being underlined in a gold line.  It was just some stupid thing that got downloaded to our computers probably without letting us know.  My computer did the same thing.  It constantly had pop ups all the time, it slowed it down to a crawl.  Why would someone even think about creating such a thing.  It really ticks me off.  I deleted as much of the crap that I could but it didn't seem to help.  If you find a way to get rid of it let me know!!!  I want to use my laptop again!

The first thing you should do before adding any new software is to download any updates for your operating system and browser. Tools > Windows Update from your browser. This takes you to Microsoft Updates. Sometimes the updates will resolve the security holes and your problems will cease. I have had some of the software that has been recomended, and it doesn't stop everything. It is a good idea to have some kind of firewall setup like Todd recomended. But without updating your OS you lessen the chance of the firewall doing its job.

          Luckycat,

I thought you booked mark that link I listed on this forum a few weeks back when you had some other problems with your PC.

That link tells you all about pop ups etc.

The problem is not with LP it is something on your PC hijacking what you want to do.

IF so did you read the terms and conditions carefully before agreeing to them.......Most people click yes without reading it and sometimes they have something saying "you will allow us to access and monitor blah blah blah.

Luckycat I am so glad you got that taken care of...you seem to have lots of problems..are you sure you never ticked any one off??  I am glad you posted how you got rid of it...I will definitely be aware.  I do notice that at the beginning of summer and around the holidays, many strange things happen with computer viruses and such..I try to be very careful..I had to pay $$$ to get rid of one even after I had virus protection on mine.

If you know your number is going to hit, have patience and then KILL IT!

You never know when you will get another hit.

                  luckycat,

Glad you got rid of the popups.

Just to answer your question: there is nothing here on Lottery Post that caused your problem.  This is probably one of the most harmless sites you'll visit, because there is no spyware of any kind, and very few ads.

I do not know why you only seemed to notice a problem here.  Perhaps it is because the spyware on your PC was designed to be triggered by certain words related to gambling (like "lottery").

Most spyware is distributed through e-mail.  Most people get infected by double-clicking file attachments that seem harmless, but really secretly install spyware on their PC.  There are many software utilities to help guard against this, which is why I recommended using Norton Internet Security 2004.

Check the State Lottery Report Card
What grade did your lottery earn?

                      luckycat,

Again, I know you only saw the problem on Lottery Post, but I assure you that it has nothing to do with Lottery Post.  Maybe it looks for the words "Jackpot" and "Games" to do something.

Spyware is a generic term, meaning some secret program that is installed on your computer without your knowledge.  Just like those two programs you found on your PC.

It is called spyware because the first way these programs were used was to secretly keep track of every site you visit (all your clicks) and secretly (without your knowledge) send that information back to some company or person.  It "spies" on you, which is why it's called spyware.

Nowadays, spyware can also be used for very bad purposes, such as using your PC to launch virus attacks against other computers, or sending thousands of SPAM e-mails from your computer - without you ever knowing about it.  Did you know that more than one-third of all SPAM is actually sent using this method?

If you install Norton Internet Security 2004, it will make sure that this kind of software will not get installed on your PC.  Or if somehow it is, the firewall will block any attempts by these secret programs to access the Internet.  In addition, feel free to also use AdAware to scan your PC every now & then for peace of mind.  It's a free download, or you can buy the registered version.

                        Read all about Spyware here...

                        http://www.spywareguide.com/

One of the more vile uses of late is identity theft. It's not just annoying popups anymore. The site above has a free online ActiveX spyware scanner, if it finds anything it alerts you, if not it just runs and disappears. They also maintain a database of programs that carry spyware.

                        Some of the big offenders...

                        Ncase (interstital ad delivery)

GAIN (or Gator, Bonzi buddy and zip-zilla are among the MANY "freeware" apps that install this)

                        Kazaa (p2p program:Sharman Networks)

                        Morpheus (p2p program: Gnutella networks)

                        Precision Time

Atomic Clock (synchs your system clock with the atomic clock, and a whole lot more!)

Playing more than one ticket per game is betting against yourself.
