Trump Proposes ‘Fake News’ Competition

"President Donald Trump continued airing his frustration with press coverage Monday and called for a contest to determine which outlet produces the most “fake news.”

“We should have a contest as to which of the Networks, plus CNN and not including Fox, is the most dishonest, corrupt and/or distorted in its political coverage of your favorite President (me),” Trump tweeted. “They are all bad. Winner to receive the FAKE NEWS TROPHY!” ...."

Read The Opinion Giving Trump Power To Take Over Liberals Favorite Agency

"The Department of Justice’s Office of Legal Counsel (OLC) released an opinion Saturday identifying President Donald Trump’s legal authority to name an interim director of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB), after the Obama-era director designated his own successor when he resigned last week.

Former director Richard Cordray’s resignation set off a major conflict over the agency’s power, long a source of Republican frustration. The CFPB is the brain child of Democratic Sen. Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts

The Office of Legal Counsel, a division of DOJ which advises the president and other executive branch officers on the scope of executive power, produced an opinion advising that Trump has power to designate an acting director under the Federal Vacancies Reform Act (FVRA), even though the law that chartered the CFPB contains a succession provision allowing the agency’s deputy director to assume the directorship if the post is vacant.

“As we have advised in our prior opinions, even when the Vacancies Reform Act is not the ‘exclusive’ means for filling a vacancy, the statute remains an available option, and the president may rely upon it in designating an acting official in a manner that differs from the order of succession otherwise provided by an office-specific statute,” OLC’s memo reads. ......"

"Comey Has No Issue With It": Judicial Watch Dumps Explosive New FBI Emails From McCabe's Conflict Review

Source: ZeroHedge

Judicial Watch  has just dumped a new treasure trove of FBI emails regarding Deputy Director Andrew McCabe's conflict check relative to the Clinton email investigation (for those who missed it, we reviewed all of McCabe's many scandals here: "FBI Director McCabe Subject Of Three Separate Federal Inquiries Into Alleged Misconduct: Report").   Ironically, this particular FOIA request was filed in October 2016 under the Obama administration but they apparently just "didn't have time" to get to it.

Judicial Watch today released  79 pages  of Justice Department documents concerning ethics issues related to FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe’s involvement with his wife’s political campaign.  The documents include an email showing  Mrs. McCabe was recruited for a Virginia state senate race in  February 2015  by then-Virginia Lieutenant Governor Ralph Northam’s office.

The news that Clinton used a private email server broke  five days later, on March 2, 2015. Five days after that, former Clinton Foundation  board member  and Democrat party fundraiser, Virginia Governor Terry McAuliffe, met with the McCabes. She announced her candidacy on March 12. Soon afterward, Clinton/McAuliffe-aligned political groups donated nearly $700,000 (40% of the campaign’s total funds) to McCabe’s wife for her campaign.

Judicial Watch obtained the documents through a July 24, 2017, Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) lawsuit filed after the Justice Department failed to respond to an October 24, 2016, FOIA request

Among other things, the new FOIA dump reveals a panicked FBI's efforts to enlist the support of an army of lawyers and public relations personnel to deal with the original Wall Street Journal article (see: "Clinton Ally Aided Campaign of FBI Official’s Wife") that first revealed McCabe's ties to the Clintons and his simultaneous oversight of the Clinton email investigation.

But perhaps none of the newly revealed emails from Judicial Watch today are more important than the following one in which  McCabe describes how FBI Director Comey was breifed on his ties to the Clintons just days before his wife announced her Senate bid  (and subsequently received roughly $700,000 in political donations for Clinton-friendly PACs) and then confirmed that he  "has no issue with it."  ..."

She Said A Powerful Congressman Harassed Her. Here’s Why You Didn’t Hear Her Story.

"Documents from the complaint obtained by BuzzFeed News  include four signed  affidavits, three of which are notarized,  from former staff members who allege that Conyers, the ranking Democrat on the powerful House Judiciary Committee, repeatedly made sexual advances to female staff that included requests for sex acts, contacting and transporting other women with whom they believed Conyers was having affairs, caressing their hands sexually, and rubbing their legs and backs in public. Four people involved with the case verified the documents are authentic. ...."

"Last week  the Washington Post reported  that Congress’s Office of Compliance paid out $17 million for 264 settlements with federal employees over 20 years for various violations, including sexual harassment. The Conyers documents, however, give a glimpse into the inner workings of the office, which has for decades concealed episodes of sexual abuse by powerful political figures.

"I was basically blackballed. There was nowhere I could go."

The woman who settled with Conyers launched the complaint with the Office of Compliance in 2014, alleging she was fired for refusing his sexual advances, and ended up facing a daunting process that ended with a confidentiality agreement in exchange for a settlement of more than $27,000. Her settlement, however, came from Conyers’ office budget rather than the designated fund for settlements. ..."
