Jack is "As Good As It Gets"!

Was watching the movie "As Good As It Gets" with Jack Nicholson the other night. Can't believe it's already been almost 15 years since that first came out. My,time flies. I remember seeing this in the theater. Never really was a big Jack fan but I have to say this was an outstanding performance. As in a lot of James L Brooks' work the dialogue is not easy to listen to sometimes. It flows at a strange pace and your ear has to get used to it but wow...great performances. Loved Jack in "About Schmidt" too a few years back...now I know why he's paid the big bucks.

I guess I get spoiled watching the old B&W's. My TV rarely leaves TCM. Joan Crawford,Barbara Stanwyck,Bette Davis,Bogie,William Holden,Jack Carson,Frankie S, Der Bingle....tooo many to name. I used to HATE old movies but as soon as I turned into my 30's I found myself watching more and more of them. The only black and whites I'd watched before then was the Three Stooges Stooges who I absolutely love, nyuk nyuk.

The world needs more movies like "As Good As It Gets"....quiet...thought provoking...subtle humor. Have not been to the theater in years...so tired of loud computer-generated garbage. Bring back dialogue...classy actors and I'll gladly contribute my 12 bucks at the box office.Lurking Take THAT,Hollywood!

iTune into Yentl...Babs Revisited

Well now....it's been many moons ago since I last listened to one of Barbara Streisand's all time best albums on my old vinyl record. I even had the cassette tape.

Oh, how my sister and I loved this movie back in 1982 or 83, I believe. We were teens and mom would drop us off in the old Ford Granada, lol. We'd watch the double feature then stay to see it again. Long afternoons...but that VOICE! Yowsa. Bought the piano book that went along with the movie and learned every song,lol. Tinkle..Tinkle..."Papa,can you hear me"???

So imagine my pleasure when I got one of these new doohickey ipod's and found out the album's available on iTunes. YAY! Bab's is singing away in my ear now about ..."how he makes her feel".

Miss these songs. That's lottolaughs...it may be 2012 out there but in my house it's still the 80's. I wonder today how many young people would sit in a theatre watching a Streisand musical movie like that. So glad I grew up in that era...say what you will about it but the 80's rocked ;)

Richard...you and Karen are "Home For My Holidays"

Starting the day after Thanksgiving I turn on one of our local radio stations that starts playing Christmas music from then until the actual day. I always forget how soothing Christmas music is...it makes me want to buy up every holiday album out there and listen all year long :)

Whenever The Carpenter's come on I can't help thinking about Richard and Karen and how much he must miss her when her soulful voice comes over the waves. The only song I really remember of theirs was "Top of the World" from my youth. Never really heard the Christmas songs until these last few years and they make me incredibly sad when I think of Karen and her tragic early demise.

So,Richard,if you're out there...just wanted to let you know...this fan is thinking of Karen too while she is singing away in my living room and wishing she was "Home for the Holidays." God Bless :)

Heaven Is A Wash Cloth

As I was folding my laundry today I came across my favorite wash cloth. There's only one like it in the whole bunch....made in Canada somewhere and it's been around the house for ages. But...oooo....ahhhh...I look forward to my bath on the day it's at the top of the pile in the linen closet.

It got me to thinking of all those little moments when we "luck out". Like when you scan the produce stand and the biggest ripest peach is at the top and no one else has been there yet. Or when you break open a chip bag and get to all the nice crispy unbroken ones first. It's your lucky day when you're staring in the donut case and ask for a glazed donut and the clerk gives you the oversized glaziest one.

This is how I imagine heaven to be somehow. Just moment after incredible moment of "being there first" and "getting the best choice". LOL.

I appreciate those "luck outs". Maybe because in real life it doesn't happen too often. I'm always the one that gives everyone the "best" of anything I have and keep the broken pieces for myself. And picking the sad little Christmas Tree in the lot that no one wants. Or the stray cat or dog. They all know where to find me.

But, hey, that's not so bad. Maybe I do "luck out" more then I realize. I'm going to ponder on that while I take my bath. Sigh......Looks like I'm not going to get my favorite cloth today...but that's alright. I got a purr today from my sweet old stray cat and that makes me feel the luckiest of all :)

Fake Hair and Flippers!

TV is getting to be a real horror movie these days. With the invention of "Reality TV" too much information isn't necessarily a good thing. OK,OK, I admit getting hooked on "The Hills" a couple of years ago. Very entertaining. But some of these shows are really too much.

My biggest "guilty pleasure" lately has been "Toddlers and Tiaras". This horrifying train-wreck of a show is.....I'm speechless. The awful words to describe it haven't even been invented yet, lol. Parents parading their children around with stars in their eyes for that plastic crown and $1,000 is beyond comprehension to my brain. I can't descibe my disgust for the absolute waste of time and money these people put forth for these pageants....thousands and thousands on entry fees, dresses, coaches, tanning, manicures, professional photos, fake hair and "flippers"...all for that 5 seconds of fame...hoping beyond hope that there's some agent or talent scout in the audience waiting to discover their fantabulously talented beautiful child. Take off the hair and makeup and you got the kid next door being a normal kid like all kids should be allowed to do. These pageant parents should all be arrested...there's just something creepy about dressing your child up like a living "doll" in provacative clothing and shaking their booty in front of everyone and his brother. EWWWWW! I'm probably not helping things by watching this show but it IS a good thing that TV is bringing this God awful atrocity to people's attention. But what can we do to stop it? Probably nothing. This is a billion dollar a year industry. Did you read that right? Yes. A Billion. Unbelivable.

If you watch enough TV you start to realize Americans are very sick people, lol. If they're not exploiting their children then they've probably been hiding in their houses pooping in a plastic bag and piling it up in the closet for the last 10 years . Oh yes,another 3 million people are "Hoarders" I've learned. Well, most of us have a little "hoarding" in us....(Have you taken a look in your closet lately?)...but REAL hoarders go above and beyond the call of duty. Smell anything rotten coming from your next door neighbor's house? It's probably the dead cats rotting and moldy food fermenting. God Bless these folks, this is a mental illness but still....another show that makes your skin crawl....

And now the latest-- "Strange Addiction". And we thought smoking cigarettes and drinking alcohol was bad. How about melting your skin off from being addicted to "tanning"? Mothers and Fathers,do you know where your daughter is? Check the laundry room....she might be in there eating laundry soap. And what about your other daughter upstairs....the one that's been suspciously wearing a scarf lately? That's right...you might like to know she's addicted to pulling her hair out and EATING it.

My goodness....what went wrong people? I'm sure most of these afflictions have been going on since the beginning of time but this is the first time we get to witness it up close and personal.

TV used to be fun. Happy Days,Laverne and Shirley,Gilligan's Island,Brady Bunch,Patridge Family....where are you now? My father considered Three's Company pretty racy in my day, lol, and used to leave the room when it was on while my sister and I sat and chuckled at Jack,Chrissy and Janet. Oh if he could only see what rates as racy now. "Jersey Shore" anyone? LOL. Fights, "shady" people, sex, drugs, alcohol, clubhopping,GTL.

What a situation!

The times you grew up in always seem more innocent than they are now. Years ago we couldn't fathom watching people with piles of stinking garbage in their house or eating Comet. Now it's "let's just air everyone's dirty little secrets". The more foul, the better. And as the years progress...they will get MORE outrageous. We will become a "shockless" society if we aren't already. Nothing will surprise or WOW us anymore. Don't you feel like you've "seen it all" now? Oh..but wait...stay tuned!

Bring back those racy times where the kisses are hers and hers and his....Three Company's too!

I Missed Kat Von D! BOOOOOOOOO

I got hooked on watching L.A. Ink. Don't ask me why........ don't have any tatoos and have no "ink"ling to get one but somehow it's very entertaining. I just think the chick is a cool "kat",lol. And an awesome artist so when I heard she was going to be book signing at my local Borders today thought I'd take a mosey on down to see if I could get an autographed book. WRONG! Line about 2 miles long. Well, needless to say, I turned around and came home. Woulda been nice but maybe next time!

The Who's Halftime Performance

I heard on the radio that someone said "The Who" should be called "The Was" now, lol. Personally I thought they did pretty good considering these guys have been around forever and don't perform all that much anymore so hey, guys! Fantastic job! One of my all time favorite Who song's is one that's probably forgotten by now but I found it on YouTube. Still got my old 45 of it too, lol. Take a listen!

You've Been Peeling A Banana All Wrong! :)

They had this on the internet the other day. Somebody was observing how monkeys open them. They turn them upside down, pinch the bottom and then peel them. When you pinch the bottom it splits right away making it so easy to peel.

The Man In The Mirror

I have been glued to my television since the news broke yesterday about "The Gloved One's" passing. This sure has been hitting me hard, I just can't get my mind wrapped around it that he's gone. I was driving home yesterday and had the radio on and the station was playing one MJ song after another. Thought that was kind of strange and it gave me a weird vibe. The phone was ringing as I walked in the door, my cousin calling me to tell me the news. Wow........just.......wow. No words.

Really haven't thought of him in years, haven't even heard much of his music. I remember sitting in my bedroom years ago with my old cassette player headphones on listening to "Man In The Mirror" over and over again for hours while attempting to write a novel. "Smooth Criminal" too, don't know why those 2 songs got me in the mood for writing. "Liberian  Girl" was another favorite. Geese, what album was that from? Bad, I think. Before that,it was "Off The Wall". Well, don't want to get started down memory lane because his catalog of songs just goes on and on, doesn't it? I'm sure I can attach a memory to each one. Growing up in the 80's you just had to be influenced by MJ somehow, somewhere. He was all over the place.

Watching the television coverage has been eye opening. I never watch news and now I know why. The anchors are just......horrible, what can you say? Repeating the same things over and over because at this point nobody knows anything until the Toxology tests come out in a month or so from now. The one REALLY strange thing is the lack of "sadness". I haven't seen one person yet shedding a tear. Maybe there was but everything I've seen has been dull and kind of cold. And here is a person who was suffering right before the whole world and nobody "saw" this man in the mirror. Well, they saw, they just never "said"......anything. Or tried to help this man-child. Or did they? It seems nobody knows anything. But I'm sure coming soon to a bookstore near you will be tell-all after tell-all books.

People sure didn't waste anytime putting MJ memorabelia up for sale on ebay. I checked this morning and there were 17,000 items for sale. By evening, it was up to 36,000. I find this very sad. If you were such a fan why would you be selling your memories? I've still got my MJ albums and wouldn't part with them for a few bucks. Oh, but wait, "Thriller" albums were selling for $300 bucks! More than a "few". I even saw the Picture LP Disc of Thriller going for $1500. My grandma gave me one of those for Christmas and I never even opened it. But, again, I wouldn't sell it....too many memories.

What a day! A day we probably won't ever see again, two icons gone within hours of each other. Poor Miss Fawcett's passing got pushed to the side but I suppose she already had her "moment" with the documentary. A very sad day indeed. Not to mention another "icon" of sorts, Ed McMahon.

Something's stirred up in the universe, I feel uneasy. Like when 9/11 happened and Katrina. These "big events" always make me feel like there's some kind of message being sent. But what is it? Maybe it just makes you think of your own mortality.

I guess that's why this bothers me so......I feel as if a part of my childhood has died. And way before I was ready.

Blue AngelRIP Michael, Farrah, Ed........you will all be missed.Blue Angel

What Are Some Songs That "Snap" You?

Here's one that always manages to snap me right back to the 80's. I forgot how brilliant this song was. Are you laughing at me? hee LOL But, really, who else could take a war, put a club mix sound to it and make us funk out? Crazy but effective. At 20 I became fascinated with the Vietnam war after seeing the movie Platoon. It really effected me for some reason. Read everything I could get my hands on, think I read 50 books on it that summer. It still intrigues me to this day and so whenever I hear this song, oh snap me back to the 80's!
