Work - Uploads

Massive upload yesterday - with corrections, about 100 files totalling over 400Mb uploaded to the client site. Error traps worked.

Found a way to format ".pdf" files in the manner I had originally envisioned. Existing files will be redone, new files will use the modified template. It's a workaround, but it works.

I'm a little worn down, but all is well.

Home - Back To Work

Home. Finished middle of the pack in tournament. Reasonably good time.

Work went better than well - sent and posted far more than I thought I would. All the previous groundwork is starting to pay off.

Back to work tomorrow. No more tournaments until at least January.

Entry #249

Atlanta GA

Off to Atlanta later today for a tournament. Picked up a partner last weekend - reasonably good player, reasonably good friend. I guess I'll find out whether we remain that way after the tournament.

As for work, ".pdf" file sent, uploaded - ahead of expectations. Ran a QA check; formatting, if not data, is correct. I'll break down the sectional files while I'm away, send and upload them when I get back. I learned, though, that the way this was done isn't the most time-effective method. That will change when I start the next part of the job. Billing will be adjusted.

See y'all next week.

Work - Progress Is Being Made...

Work continues, goes well. I doubt if I'll have this part of it complete before I leave for Atlanta GA next week for a tournament but it'll be close, and I'll have the laptop with me. One hard copy submissal ready to print, and that will be out of here before I leave. The .pdf file will have the hardest part of the edit completed. The rest of the .html files will be just a matter of cut and paste.

Had an inquiry on a text file listing all possibilities with line numbers in a 6/49 lottery. I had done this a while back - the file sizes out at about 375Mb - so I'll send him a flash drive with the information requested later this week. The file itself isn't that hard to generate if you have the right software, but it's still neat to have that info on hand and ready for dissemination.

Error Traps Revisited - Part 2

Phase I work files are complete. I'll start working on submissals tomorrow. Hard copy will be submitted hopefully before the end of the week; posting of files to their website starts tomorrow. Took more time than I wanted, less time than anticipated.

Change orders and error traps incorporated. It's about as good as I can make it.

Celtic Woman Concert

Scored tickets to see Celtic Woman live here next month. I've seen them before and have their CDs - just beautiful music.

Probably the first live concert I've attended in more than 15 years. The last time I did, I saw Mannheim Steamroller.

Error Traps Revisited

All throughout this project I've tried to minimize the possibility of submitted errors by creating and instituting error traps. They've kept me out of a lot of trouble over the projrct's lifespan.

In building and submitting some files in the manner in which I did, though, certain of these traps were bypassed, and it's come back to bite me. In the first 10% of constructing the last set of files, I've come across two errors, one minor, one major. They would have had an effect on all data throughout the project.

I've requested the client return all submitted hard copy and and I have removed all previously uploaded files from their website. They will have to be rebuilt, but I won't do that until I've completed the section I'm working on now.

The positive effect of all this, though, is the standardization of the appearance of all hard copy. I had been experimenting with other fonts and typesetting options, and have come up with something that, at least, I like. We'll see what the client thinks at a later date.

Back to work.

Home - And Back To Work

Home from Sacramento. Only 12 people showed up - the future of this tournament is in doubt.

Strange results. My partner and I finished 3rd. But there were side pots, of which six of seven were reliant on the luck of the deal, and I won four of them. I've never been that lucky with that sort of thing before. Maybe it was payback for bailing out the tournament last year - who knows?

Got more work accomplished during the trip than I ever imagined possible. Two more files shouldl be submitted and posted before tomorrow ends.

All in all, quite a successful trip.

Entry #242

Sacramento CA

Underway later today for Sacramento CA - tournament. I'll act as tournament director as well as compete.

Two more large Phase I files submitted and posted early this A.M. Appearance tweaked, but still not the final version. Closer, though..... Will be taking work on the road for the idle moments.

All going fairly well for what it's worth.....

Project Restart #4

Client approval received. First pages posted. Some of the web pages will be truly massive in this form and may have to be revised later, but they've been submitted and posted. If they do have to be resized the process will be painless.

All content will be sectioned for easy assembly into whatever output is desired. It'll make the control files easier to build, but a little longer. No matter - for the first time I'm optimistic this revision is a better way to go as far as the overall aims of the project is concerned.

I have four more major files to build before I consider the preliminaries complete but it's looking good. Some tweaking of the appearance may be necessary but that's a minor issue. Templates are built. Standardization is nearly complete.

It's been a busy time but at least there's something to show for it. Onward and forward to bigger and better things.....

Headed for Sacrament CA for a tournament next weekend - I'll take some of this work with me for processing in my spare time.

Project Restart #3

All new Phase I templates are complete. Control files are ready. The first page - the first test of all this - has been submitted and posted. Data transfer from the old base to the new is underway. All is well. I'll find out what the client thinks about it later today, but it looks as if all requirements have been met.

Most of the web pages will simply be a matter of cut and paste. It'll be up to the client as to what he wants posted, but the process will be simple, fast and easy.

Project Restart #2

First part is a done deal. Results are promising, beautiful, fantastic - past errata corrected, ready to submit. Unless there are typos - and there shouldn't be - this part is complete.

Celebrate, celebrate, dance to the music.....

Home, Work

Home - 6 hours earlier than scheduled. Nice that I get to spend the rest of the evening taking care of mail I received while enroute rather than in the middle of the night.

Won the KCMO tournament - good cards, good partner.

Without taking entry data with me while I was away, I built Phase II templates. I modeled them after the Phase I templates then uploaded them to the website. They looked OK until I realized I had made a fundamental mistake - the output files will have different names. Back to work in the AM with corrections - my bad. All in all, though, I'm more than happy with progress made.

Good trip.

Entry #237

Kansas City MO

Off to KCMO early tomorrow. Tournament, visit with friends.

Mods to Phase II were so intriguing to my client that I've been commissioned to provide a similar mod to Phase I before anything is actually published. Being so close to being able to utilize the output there'll be a delay while this change order is built and executed.

The one thing no one foresaw is all the work necessary to alter the templates to suit the mods. So be it - looks like a road project, since no printed output will be necessary.

Back in ten days - gla
