I bought a Massachusetts Season Ticket!

Hurray!

I am very happy! I just bought a 3-month subscription Season Ticket for Mass Cash. I finally get to play a pick 5 game and it's not computerized! My Season Ticket doesn't start until February 15th, but it's worth the wait. Is there anyone else out there that is doing this?

Barack's speech was beautiful!

My family and I thought his speech was beautiful. We even were teary-eyed. I am so glad to have had the chance to be a witness to history in the making.

Our next president!

New pics of Bella

I thought I would post some pictures of Bella since I haven't in a while (thanks time*treat for reminding me). She is so different from when we first found her. She is growing and is hyper and she is really loving towards us. Although, she doesn't like strangers and will run and hide when anyone, but my mom, sister or me is around. The orange cat is Joey. She really likes him, but he only seems to barely tolerate her. LOL

Update on new kitty (w/ pics)

The kitten is doing better today. He has a big appetite and has been drinking liquids so things are good on that front. He is also getting better at letting us around him, but still has the instinct of wanting to run and hide. We are still keeping him in his crate and keeping the other cats away from him. He also got a mini bath, which he handled surprisingly well. He also is not flipping out on us when we try to pick him up. In a way, it seems like he kind of welcomes us touching him. I think he is starting to realize (slowly), that we aren't the enemy. Although, like I said he still has flight instinct. We still are undecided on a name, but then we are waiting to find out what gender he really is.

Anyways, here are a couple of pictures of my sister holding the new kitty:

(Also, for some reason, he looks a lot bigger in the pics then he does in person. It's kind of weird.)

Found a kitten in our dumpster (picture added)

Early this morning around 3:30, I heard a cat meowing. I thought it was one of our two cats, but I found them in the house so I just figured it was one of the neighbors cats. Well this afternoon, my youngest sister took the garbage out and runs back in the house and said there was a kitten in the garbage. My mom, sister and me run outside and sure enough, there is a little kitten in the garbage under a bag of potatoes. It was so sad. We got one of our cats crates and my sister hopped on a chair and jumped in the garbage tank. It took us about 5 minutes trying to catch it because it was terrifed and was kind of flipping out.

We had him in the cat crate, but then we got a huge box and put food, water and litter in it and well...He/she jumped right out it. lol. Then, he ran around the house while our other cats wanted to know what was going on and he hissed and ran into my room and is currently under my bed. We decided to just let him stay under there until he calms down a bit.

We tried to call a vet to make an appointment to have him checked out, but all the vets closed around 2:00 and they aren't opened on Sundays and Monday is a holiday. *sigh* We are keeping him away from our other cats in case he is sick or something. He looks a little raggedy and a bit thin, but seems ok. Still, we are going to keep him away from our other cats because we don't know if he is sick or has fleas, lice or whatever.

I am just so upset about the whole thing. How could someone just dump a poor animal like that and in the trash. There is no way that it just hoped in. The garbage can is one of those huge ones that are really high. I hate people sometimes. And I feel guilty. I heard a cat meowing and I just assumed it was a neighbors cat. It had been in the trash, under a bag of potatoes, in the heat. I don't think it would have survived very long if my sister hadn't found him. I also have a feeling that one of the neighbors may have known it was there, but chose to ignore it. He was working on his car and cleaning it out and the car was right near the garbage can. If I heard it from my bedroom window, he had to have heard the cat while outside next to the garbage itself. :/

Anyways, we will get it fixed and get its shots and keep it. He/she deserves to have a home where it doesn't have to worry about being dumped in the garbage again.

* I will post pictures of him later when he has calmed down.

ETA:
He has calmed down a bit. We caught him and put him back in the crate and he seems to be doing well. He is so worn out and tired. I feel so bad for him. He seems like he may be sick. Plus, we think he might be a lot younger then we thought. We think he may only be a couple of weeks old, but we are not sure yet.

Here is a picture:

Video shows bystanders ignoring hit-and-run victim

The Associated Press

THE VIDEO (Not for the weak of heart. It's very sad. Frown )

HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — Police released chilling surveillance video of a hit-and-run accident in hopes of catching the unidentified driver who ran down a 78-year-old pedestrian, paralyzing him, and to show the callousness of bystanders who did nothing to help.

The gripping one-minute video shows the violent May 30 accident and bystanders' apparent lack of sympathy. No one rushes to Angel Arce Torres' aid, and no one bothers to stop traffic as Torres lays motionless in the street.

In the video, released by police Wednesday, Torres walks in the two-way street at 5:45 p.m. after buying milk at a local grocery. He is struck by a dark Honda that was chasing a tan Toyota. Both cars dart down a side street as Torres crumples to the pavement.

Several cars pass Torres as a few people stare from the sidewalk. Some approach Torres, but most stay put until a police cruiser responding to an unrelated call arrives on the scene.

Police suggested the video shows a city that has lost its moral compass.

"At the end of the day we've got to look at ourselves and understand that our moral values have now changed." Police Chief Daryl Roberts said. "We have no regard for each other."

Torres is paralyzed and remains in critical condition in Hartford Hospital.

His son, Angel Arce, begged the public for help.

"My father is fighting for his life," Arce said. "I would like the public right now to help us in identifying the car and the person that did this."

Robert Luna, who works at a nearby store, blamed witnesses for failing to help Torres. "It took too long to call police," he said Thursday. "Nobody did nothing."

Witness Bryant Hayre said he didn't feel comfortable helping Torres, who he said was bleeding and conscious.

"Whoever did this should be sent away for a long time," Hayre told The Hartford Courant. "It was as if he was a dog left in the street to die."

How can people just walk and drive by and not help this person laying in the street like that. People make me sick and angry sometimes. Mad

Woman cashes altered lottery ticket

June 04, 2008 12:27 EDT
Information from: The Asheville Citizen-Times

ASHEVILLE, N.C. (AP) -- Police have charged an Asheville woman with trying to claim $1 million with an altered lottery ticket.

The Asheville Citizen-Times reports that 39-year-old Michelle Gibson Ryans is charged with obtaining property by false pretense. She was arrested Tuesday night.

Arrest warrants said she used an altered Cash Spectacular lottery ticket to claim more than $1 million from the North Carolina Lottery on April 4.

Ryans is being held on a $5,000 bond at the Buncombe County jail. She was scheduled to make a court appearance Wednesday. It wasn't immediately clear whether Ryans had an attorney.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
My question is...how was she able to cash it in the first place? What? Unless, I am reading it wrong, which I think I might be.
A former homeless man wins £2.6m
BBC News channel
posted 12:40 GMT, Tuesday, 3 June 2008 13:40 UK
Herbert Plant, 49, from Blackpole, Worcester, said he would spend the cash from Saturday's draw buying a car and paying off his son's mortgage. But he said he wanted to continue working at the city's St Paul's Hospice, which took him in after he lost his home and job.
The chef said hearing the news of his windfall was "surreal". Mr Plant said he called his employers on Monday to tell them about the win; they greeted the news with disbelief.
'Lucky weekend'
He said he would now be taking "time out" to decide what else to do with his winnings. However, the Leeds United fan said he would go to Elland Road to see a match and would also pay for a holiday.
"My youngest son Jamie did say he thought it was going to be a lucky weekend," Mr Plant said. "I asked him what he meant, but he just couldn't describe his feelings, although I'm very glad they have come true."
Mr Plant, who is divorced, said he played the lottery by Lucky Dip, which came up with the winning numbers of 15, 20, 22, 34, 37 and 39. He said he first realised he had won when his other son Richard, 24, checked his Lotto tickets on Sunday. Mr Plant said: "It was a normal relaxing Sunday afternoon. "Richard was running a few errands for me at the local shop and I asked him if he would check my Lotto tickets at the same time.
"He was gone over an hour so I started to worry, but moments later he ran into the house shouting at the top of his voice, 'You've won, you've won'.
"I couldn't believe it."
Man blames theft on lottery ticket addiction
Associated Press
2:54 PM CDT, June 1, 2008
MUNCIE, Ind. - A man who pleaded guilty to stealing $3,000 from a group that promotes education claims his addiction to scratch-off lottery tickets led him to steal the money.
James P. Whalen, 59, of Muncie said he stole the money to support a habit of spending up to $50 every day on scratch-off tickets.
Whalen was sentenced to six months last week in the Delaware County jail after pleading guilty to forgery, a felony that carries carrying a standard four-year prison term.
Under his plea agreement, three other forgery charges and a theft count were dismissed.
Whalen, who had no prior felony convictions, was accused of writing checks totaling $3,159 on the account of the local branch of the Indiana Association for the Education of Young Children.
A relative of Whalen's is affiliated with the group, which promotes "quality care and education for all young children birth through age eight in Indiana," according to its Web site.
The judge who sentenced Whalen also ruled that he would be on probation for two years upon his release from jail and ordered him to make full restitution to the group.
It seems like he basically got a slap on the wrist. He only has to serve 6 months and the other charges of theft were dismissed. Disapprove
