The Kentucky Lottery will begin selling tickets Sunday for a new computerized game, Double Up Cash, that offers players a chance to double nonjackpot prizes if they correctly pick "heads" or "tails."
Numbers for the game will be chosen nightly, Monday through Saturday. Tickets cost $1, and the prize payouts range from a free-play ticket to a minimum jackpot of $40,000.
The jackpot will increase by $10,000 for every night it isn't hit, up to a maximum of $500,000, said lottery spokesman Chip Polston.
Players try to match five numbers from a 36-number matrix. The odds of doing that are 1 in 376,992, Polston said. The odds of winning a prize are about 1 in 8, he said.
Players fill out slips picking five numbers and then check either heads or tails at the bottom of the slip. They can make the choices themselves or have the computer make random selections.
The prize for matching two of the 36 numbers is the free play; matching three numbers, $5; and matching four numbers, $50.
If, however, a player has correctly checked heads or tails, which is selected at random by computer, the prize will be $2 for matching two of the 36 numbers, $10 for matching three numbers and $100 for matching four numbers.
Hitting the correct heads or tails will not double the jackpot if all five numbers are matched, Polston said.
Lottery corporation President Arch Gleason said that, with "the chance to double some of the prizes and the rolling jackpot, this game will serve as a great complement to our other online games."
The lottery's other computer-based games include Pick 3, Pick 4, Kentucky Cash Ball, Tic Tac Cash, and the multistate games Lotto South and Powerball.
Haha I love how they hoodwink you here. Most states pay out ten bucks and 100 for three and four number respectively. So they just cut that in half and then offer to "double" it with the new gimmick. Seriously these states take players as dopes sometimes. Jackpot starts at 40k that is another joke. Another weak attempt to create new revenue. How bout a game that actually pays out a higher payback percentage instead of this new twisted same old garbage.
Don't be too hard on the Kentucky Lottery. Kentucky is not a big-cash state like yours (Illinois), so they can't offer the same kinds of prizes. I think the Kentucky Lottery generally runs a good set of games.
I agree that kentucky is one of the better states especially with the scratch offs they offer and a game like cash ball is fair. But the guys comment that the doubler feature is supposed to excite people is just a sham. Its like pizza hut offering you the chance to get two slices of pizza for one if you win a coin toss, but all you wind up getting is two smaller pieces of pizza. I agree that states are behind the eight ball as far as increasing payback percentages but that is the only way they will draw more revenue and compete with tracks and casinos. If ohio can have a game payback 81% why cant other states?
and the 81% payback doesn't mean more prizes. it just means higher top prizes. they can disperse that 81% however they want, and they decieded that they want to just add it to the top prize.
as for KY, they seem to be having a lot of online games nowaday.
Why not just pay 1.50, 7.50 and 75 for 2,3,and 4 number respectively. This game though is a good wager once the jackpot rolls to about 250k , then I would give it a go. That Illinois lotto is going down tonite!

If you hit the double up it's $10, which is comparable to PA's Cash 5. Which is pari-mutel but paid $9.50 for 3 out of 5/39 tonight.
Yeah but its expected value is 7.50 and the expected value of 4 out of 5 is 75 bucks. Pa pays over 200 bucks for 4 out of 5. I know the Kentucky matrix is smaller. The thing I hate about this is just the lines the lotto directors whip out at you trying to get people excited over a double up feature that is pretty much bogus.
This game doesn't look to me like it will last long but who am I. I didn't think the Tic Tac Cash game would last. I think it took a couple of months for someone to hit the jackpot on it. I wish they would bring back a old game called "The Pick". I think I told DoctorEW about this game. I did some research and found a old card I had for it. Also I think Double Up Cash is another RNG game, which I hate.
