i think we all paid for the pb 300 million winner to have a nice life!

Only those who played paid, but that's the deal "you have to pay to lose".  I didn't play so I didn't pay.

I'm playing MM tonight, so I'm paying if I lose.

i'm not playing mm,as  i'd have to drive to next state to get tickets, not worth gas expense, and i learned a lesson in chasing the powerballs.

I hope the winner steps forward, takes cash option, and doesn't have financial problems later in life.

      Thanks.  Yawn

Truthfully I could care less if they have financial problems or not. Anyone who loses that kind of money deserves it, and would be an idiot. Wishing them well on a forum does not change my financial situation regardless.

Why is it so much more important to win cash option than annuity?

Why is it so much more important to win cash option than annuity?

The winner can take the annuity or cash option. Most people just want one big lump sum because they don't want the "smaller" checks over 29 years in 30 payments. Now, as far as someone saying that it's better than taking the annuity, I don't agree with that. It all depends on the person who won. I don't think there's anything wrong with taking the annuity. At the same time, these people also seem to complain about not getting "the whole prize" when in reality they are. They seem to think "Well $145M isn't $314M, so I'm not getting what I won", but they are because that's the option they chose. If you chose the cash option, you can't complain about not getting the annuity amount. I've explained this several times already: A jackpot prize isn't just a set amount, but also the terms that go with that amount. In the case of PowerBall, the terms are: 30 payments over 29 years. The lottery decided to give the winner the option of taking it in one present day lump sum, which also means there is no interest gained, but nonetheless, it's still their option.

Congrats to the winner and or possible group of winners.  I look forward to hearing about the winners sometime soon and let's hope they are smart about it.  We don't need another druggie blowing all the money on faux antiques.

i read where if you take the annuity, the lottery reinvests the rest over the 20 years, while players pay it off, into investments, they sorta get paid twice.

The winning PB ticket was sold at a Speedway convenience store in Richmond,Indiana. It was about three miles down U.S. highway 40 from another Speedway store that sold a $296 million winning ticket in 1998 to a lottery pool from Columbus,Ohio. Could it be that another Ohioan won a PB jackpot with an even bigger MegaMillions one waiting at home to be won?

Well, unless the person shows up at Hoosier Lottery HQ within the next hour or so, we won't be finding out who the winner is until Monday at the earliest. I'm eager to see who it was.

Probably too early to be talking about this...but has a Powerball or Mega Millions jackpot ever gone unclaimed?  Would the jackpot prize money stay with the states to squander as they see fit?

Several reason you may not hear from the winner/winners for a while:

1> They only get one chance to mess it up, and they want to take time to get all the advice they can before signing the claim forms.

2> He/she/they are probably waiting for the MegaMillions jackpot to be won and maybe claimed so all the attention won't be on them.

3> They got lucky and won the PB $314M jackpot so why not try for the MM $330 jackpot while they're on a roll and collect both jackpots later.

4> Promised friends and neighbors if they ever won they would share and is having to face the reality of saying "Hell No, it all mine and I'm not sharing it with everyone who want some".

Hell ya. Hell, if I won $314M on PowerBall I'd probably spend $1000 on Mega Millions tickets for a shot at another $330M.Big Grin
