Gloria Aguda was on the verge of losing her home to foreclosure and couldn't afford a trip to the doctor. Depressed, the 50-year-old Fountain resident prayed for help. Last week those prayers were answered when she matched all six numbers in the Colorado Lotto drawing for a $9 million jackpot.
"My heart was pounding so bad," said Aguda, a single mother of two adult sons who has worked two jobs to support her family.
The family struggled to make ends meet as Aguda also studied to become a medical assistant. "My kids have worked so hard to save the house," a tearful Aguda said in a statement released by the Colorado Lottery.
She plans to pay off the mortgage on her home and other bills with the cash lump sum of $4.5 million she opted for, Colorado Lottery officials said.
Aguda also will provide financial support for her extended family, including a partially blind brother who lives in her native Philippines. The money will also allow Aguda's sons to finish college and pay off school loans.
She purchased the winning Lotto ticket from the Safeway at 6925 Mesa Ridge Road in Fountain. The store will receive a $5,000 bonus for selling the winning ticket, Lotto officials said.

I prefer to read about millionaires that win the lottery. It's more like real life. You know, all the poor downtrodden people working to make rich people's dreams come true while getting nothing in return. Oh wait, that's the Republican dream: top 10% get ahead and everyone else can go to Mexico to get ahead.
I thank God, that woman won. I wish God had answered my prayers when I needed to win the lottery to get my mother a new liver and my brother a bone marrow transplant but in his wisdom he left me alone so I could spend everything my family had for hospitalization but no transplants and funerals for the two of them. Jesus loves me cause the bible tells me so. God bless.

I just wrote something similar (not quite as strong!) in the mystical forum when someone posted about dreams and being able to see the future. I think prayer helps us to focus, gives us guidance, and can also be healing, but I don't think God makes those decisions either. He leaves all that crazy stuff to us humans. There have also been articles about drug dealers and convicted sex offenders who win the lottery.
Still, it's a nice story.
(I also lost my Mom when she was 74 due to liver failure.)

People who win the lottery have to be very CAREFUL what they do with the money!
Winning a lottery jackpot is more of a "set up" for your demise that anything else sometimes! The hundreds of terrible stories of those who won only to see their lives completely ruined by it is still untold! Yeah it was God sure it was! God let you win cause he wanted to watch your life be ruin more than it already was before winning. NOT!
If this woman was truely listening to God in the past previous years what the hell was she in forclosure anyhow? I bet gambling has something to do with it!
