For starters, I think you got the numbrs wrong.  According to lottoreport, sales were a hair shy of $2 million. About 32 cents of each dollar went to the jackpot, so that would put Iowa's share at about $635,000.

That's pretty close for what was probably announced as "six hundred thousand" or "about six hundred thousand". It's also a pretty safe bet that their share of the unclaimed hotlotto prize wasn't exactly $1.4 million, and that the total they award in extra prizes won't  be $2.000 million.

I also used lotto report to add up my numbers and the sales are about $2.6M as I initially claimed

6/04/2011 - $358,285      JP $20M

6/08/2011 - $301,192

6/11/2011 - $325,556

6/15/2011 - $296, 601

6/18/2011 - $337, 527

6/22/2011 - $319,037

6/25/2011 - $365,437

6/29/2011 - $337,867      JP $76M

"...About 32 cents of each dollar went to the jackpot..." where did you get that one from? for example, NC claims on its website that 58% of the revenues is paid out in prizes. Another report written by Davis Cay Johnson of Reuters found that "...Overall, lotteries pay out only about 62% of their revenue as winnings,..."

That money's gone fo ever

The first two aren't part of the  $76 million jackpot. There was a $25 million winner on 6/8.

An average of all lottery games doesn't apply indvidually to every lottery game. For PB, 50% of sales goes to the prize pool for all of the prizes, and  at that time 65.0577% of the prize pool was allocated to the jackpot. That means it was actually 32.52885 cents per ticket.

This whole secret winner nail biter drama needs to be made into a movie. As the NY attorney Crawford Shaw, he should be cast by    Conehead

(have to dig him up first), Bernie Madoff. The Super Lottery Top Cop bogle should be portrayed by Steven Seagal.     Cool

Funny that you mentioned casting Steven Seagal to play Bogle. When he first started this investigation, people on this board thought of him more like Barney Fife. (Not sure if you were going for 1990 Seagal or 2010 Seagal.)

Yeah, Barney Fife would have worked just as well for the comedic angle. I think the more mellow, aged like wine, little slower, little heavier 2010

Seagal, would be probably be more appropriate for portraying the somewhat aging Bogle.  Cool

They have a law that says unclaimed prizes must go back to lottery players as prizes........that makes too much sense. As soon as this story gets bigger I'm sure theres gonna be some politician there wanting to change that......lol

Wonder if we will hear of Marges good ole crooked azz do something for ga players. NOT

So for me, the bigger story with this announcement is that the lottery has no hope in finding the actual winner. I guess none of the stolen or missing ticket claims had enough meat to work with. I'm surprised this wrapped up this soon.
