I don't think they're making it hard enough, there will still be PLENTY of winners.  If you want my opinion, I think the odds need to be increased to over 1 in 1,000,000,000.

Increasing the price decreases the chances of someone winning because fewer tickets are sold...

I personally think it would be a disaster if the jackpots gets to a $1 billion, and still no one can win it.

Powerball went up to two bucks and seems to be chugging right along. People were buying those two dollar tickets and not evening thinking twice when the jackpot hit record levels. The average Joe's rationality of it is, "it's still cheaper then a gallon of gas". Part of me is a little miffed at Mega Millions, but the other part of me understand why they are donig it. At the end of the day, they are in competetion with Powerball. Mega Millions could have increased their tickets to two dollars to match Powerball, they made a descision not to in order to give the wager a cheaper alternative to powerball. I guess by them now raising the oddds, their thinking is that they can match powerball with consent several hundred million dollar jackpots and still be able to beat them on price per wager. The same way the lucky ones have dumb luck and win the mega millions with a  1 and 175 million to 1 odds, people will still hit it when it goes up 258 million to 1.

Been playing the MM ever since it started, it was called the BIG GAME back then,

I've played every draw regardless of JP size, now w/ this change I may join the camp that plays only after the JP hits a higher #

When they were getting ready to start the megaplier I was on the fence about it, once it started I liked it and was playing for the 2nd prize,

so now w/ this change I'm  not sure what to do.

Guess I'll have to wait till it happens.

The only thing "blowing up" over at PB is the size of the jackpots. Green laugh

They will never keep up with PB until they raise the ticket price. Raising the odds will NOT increase sales.

Bigger ticket price, bigger jackpot size. Proven fact.

you make it 50c a ticket, and 1 in 1 billion m that's $1 buys a 1 in 500 mill chance.  people will see the 50c and huge jackpots and flock to it; ignoring the  incredibly high odds. you could also make the min buy $2, keeping the shop keepers happy.

I guess the chances of winning MegaMillions are pretty slim huh?

If that ever happened, they could do what PB once proposed and cap the jackpot and shared the excess with the second place winners.
