The majority of these winner are probably "ten percentors" and it just amazes me that active LP posters can't see it.

Jones cashed winning lottery tickets that were purchased at 590 vendors in 80 communities.

Ok so did he just buy 590 tickets and won on all of them or did he buy a whole lot more and we only hear about how much he won rather than how much he actually spent?

In my opinion some of the people listed are front men who are used by a larger organization and also think the take on people who are unable to cash their own winning tickets is more like fifty cents on the dollar not ten percent.

I posted in LP how people in my corner store were betting and winning big in NJ Pick3/4 regularly. After that, they stopped coming to our store. Do you think they suddenly had the urge to stop playing ?

In NY, Win4 box tickets are sold out for months at a time. What % of these sold out tickets are legitimate, 100%? I figure some folks are raking in tons of $$$ from these box tickets.

Its common knowledge how winning scratch tickets are like currency. I just hope they come from legitimate winners and not something else. I have observed that a lot of winning tickets are sold in the least popular parts of NJ. I guess the randomizer just knows where to send these winners.

NY recently launched their Open Data program, inviting folks to slice and dice their numbers. Inviting more people to take chances. I find it useless when you cant get your hands on good numbers as they're sold out.

I think the State Lotteries can go the way of the AC casinos. People can start tuning out and their sales will suffer. Just like sows, who will eat anything. They too will cannibalize each other, themselves and perish together.

He cashed 590 tickets each with a value over $600 and was given a W-2G for each ticket and probably bought very few of those tickets unscratched. The term "ten percenters" comes from race tracks where winning betters paid someone 10% of the winnings to cash tickets that required a SS number and getting a W-2G. What percentage is deducted, depends on the amount of the winnings and with some tickets, it might be 50%.

The Ohio Lottery and several other states claim forms has something like this "under penalty of perjury, i certify that all information provided on this form is true and correct to the best of my knowledge. i further state under oath and certify the following: 1. i am / am not (circle one) in default of any court order requiring me to pay child support or alimony. please see orC §3770.071. 2. my personal information including social security number provided herein are correct." so if someone owed back child support and/or alimony, they could pay someone a percentage of the winnings to cash the ticket.

"did he buy a whole lot more and we only hear about how much he won rather than how much he actually spent?"

Its similar to 1 in 739,688 MM tickets will match 4 + 1 and win $5000, but a scratch-off game would only print one $5000 winning ticket out of every 739,688 tickets. The topic should be "Some lottery winning streaks have defied belief or more likely, people are buying winning tickets from other players and cashing them for a percentage of the winnings".

I Agree! They were called "ten percentors" at race tracks when it was uncommon to see a $2 ticket pay over $600. Today on tickets valued over $2500, 50% might be on the low side.

People assume players like Jones bought scratch-offs, got lucky and scratched 590 winning tickets valued over $1000. I'm saying it's more likely people like Jones bought the tickets from other players for much less than the ticket was worth, because for whatever reason, they didn't want to fill out a claims form.

I Agree! I agree since all these people cashing these tickets are in the 30%+ tax bracket.  Paying 50% leaves them only 20% of the ticket value to cover their expenses and to make a living.

THIEVES- they probably steel the tickets at the store level from unsuspecting people that don't sign but get their tickets checked, then use these 10%'er people to cash them in.

i know if I stole $600+ there would be a full fledged investigation. These people do it boldly over & over again without worry.

If my purse was stolen in front of that many people who are aware of this (and perhaps some of these enablers even), they would probably put in some sort of effort to stop it and/or prosecute the offender. They just look at this crime as oh bummer they are stealing I wish I was so lucky.

I tell you if I were to look for someone to commit a crime, like paying someone to cash it in for me, I know far too many people who would be able to do that for me. I would not hire someone, especially if I don't know them, who does this all the time because what if they got caught on my nickel? Too risky! I say they are stealing from the customers. It isn't that difficult to trace who bought those tickets. Maybe a few, but not that many people would trust their large amount of money to strangers. Come on now, would you?

The least they could do is have it announced publicly to be careful here at this particular store or there, because the store you frequent for lottery tickets, have the same winner over and over. You better believe, there is not a chance in the world I would buy from their store, even if I signed and turned my own tickets in.

Highly doubtful, but I hope something is done about this.

good luck people but mostly, beware!

I doubt that it amazes you.

This kind of activity has been reported here before but it doesn't amaze me that the LP brain trust still can't figure out how people like "Steve Player" could have established their golden reputations without having to win a thing.  And how, once they developed their reputations and long enough sucker lists, they could abandon their sleazy 10% activities and proceed with milking their cash cows.  And I won't be amazed if someone replies here to remind me that there have been recent testimonials of big wins at the Player Group.  :-(

For now let's just stick to the subject and discuss whether it makes more sense the Mass Lottery cheated so 10 players could all cash at least 100 winning tickets valued over $600 (three cashing over 1000 tickets) or more likely the majority of those tickets were purchased and sold by players wishing to remain anonymous. I'm not suggesting that every LP member should understand and use Occam's razor, but that doesn't excuse not using common sense logic.

Fast Eddie pointed out the cut is more likely 50% and RJ pointed out even after keeping 50% the person cashing the ticket might only keep 25% after taxes. And this is why I believe it's more likely these frequent winners are buying winning tickets at a discount. Ashley Brudnick is in tenth place, but she still made $27,000 after taxes were deducted. If you notice those purposing the "fix was in" didn't elaborate how or why.

"And I won't be amazed if someone replies here to remind me that there have been recent testimonials of big wins at the Player Group."

You're just assuming there is a reason other than FYI for posting a testimony. Every Player system I saw were either money management or how to win more, if and when your numbers if ever hit. The best examples of the latter was when the Player Group wagered $105 on one five number PB line and matched four numbers and the New Mexico player who recently did the same thing playing MM. Do you really believe anybody will admit to paying for that (winning?) system?

I explained in detail what I thought was one of Player's progressive betting systems and you childishly asked how much I won using it. But that's nothing new for you because most of your debates are based on you wrongly assuming something. For years Player advertised a system for $100 on how to win over $5000 a month playing pick-3 and those who were gullible but still skeptical asked if anybody bought it. You'll see lots of questions about Player systems but very few discussions on how they work. It's no different just assuming without examining the Player systems don't work than assuming ten players actually bought, scratched, and cashed over 100 tickets valued over $600.

Do you have any evidence not based on assumption the Player systems are rip-offs?

                            2. LOSE

Lots of ways to cheat da system!  I've seen store clerk owners scratch $20 tickets, the whole roll, especially if it's a new game, all while I was paying for gas??? Think about it, if a new scratch off came out, potential to win $100K, $200K, OR ONE MILLION DOLLARS and all u get for selling it is a small percentage, wouldn't u scratch and get it all???  Clerks load up on all da triples daily!  They figured it out is all I can say.... Don't hate the player hate the game!  And no, if I scratch, I go to self kiosk, don't trust da clerks! No way!  Now the ten percent?  Yea, it's dishonest, but hey, everybody gets paid! Haha!
