A Florida man who won a $10 million lottery jackpot claims the lucky numbers came from a fortune cookie.

Richard Davis, 66, of Boca Raton, said he only occasionally plays the lottery, using the same five sets of numbers — one for each time he visited the eatery — that came from fortune cookies he received from a North Carolina restaurant, he told the Florida Lottery.

Out of the five tickets he bought recently, he learned one was the winner of the Florida Lotto game jackpot at a Publix grocery store in Boca Raton from the drawing held on Aug. 22. Those fortunate numbers were 26, 39, 16, 29, 46, and 45.

"I checked and rechecked the ticket several times over the next few days," Davis said in a statement.

Davis claimed his lump-sum payment of more than $7 million Tuesday at Lottery headquarters in Tallahassee.

While the Publix grocery store gets a bonus of $50,000 for selling the ticket, the restaurant in Asheville, North Carolina, that served the fortune cookie does not get a commission.

Not too shabby. One could say your are"one sharp cookie" for playing those numbers.I will hang onto any fortune cookies for the next draw for comparison usually. I have purchased a ticket or two in the past based on those numbers but have yet to yield any financial benefits.
Kudos Richard !!!  Enjoy your new found wealth and continued success in your future lottery endeavors.

Like chop suey, fortune cookies are an American invention. They originated in California, but who the actual inventor was, and which city in California is the true home of the fortune cookie, has continued to be a matter of debate. Unequivocally not Chinese, the fortune cookie may in fact not even be Chinese American.

With a story like this, more people will probably be saving and playing the numbers

printed on their little slip of chuckles.

I don't know if some ideas presented for fortunes are meant for comedy, but I've seen

some that make me lol. Jade I remember one directing me to another cookie but the

first wasn't empty.

The latest I had was a question. It asked: What is the distance from the eyes to the soul?

What?

I've considered how to apply that and came to the conclusion it was a bum cookie.

Can't recall the details, but someone else had the same fortune from playing fortune cookie numbers.  Anyone who could scratch my brain cells to remember which state would be greatly appreciated.

Doesn't $208 million sound fabulous??

He is lucky he is the only winner the last time the cookie gave the same numbers to 200 different people so the jackpot was sadly and happily divided but congrats. The last cookie I got from a Chinese restaurant the cookie was empty and I was thinking to my self probably it means I ate all my fortune in all you can eat section lol. Well I agree :)

"He is lucky he is the only winner"

This guy is apparently playing numbers he got some time in the past, so he'd probably only be sharing if a bunch of other people were playing old numbers they got at around the same time. AFAIK, the only time a bunch of people won with fortune cookie numbers they won the 2nd place PB prize and they al got the full million (or whatever it was for the ones who got powerplay.

Congrats to Mr Davis,

He Used numbers that passed his way that day.

Wonder if Mr. Davis will be going back to that restaurant that had the lucky numbers in the fortune cookie.

Who would get a Tip if he choose to give one?

The  server who grabbed  the cookie from the box, the owner, or both?
