Georgia LotteryGeorgia Lottery: Accused lottery murderer recaptured

Rating:

OCILLA, GA — The suspect accused of murdering a Georgia Lottery winner has now been caught, after he escaped from prison Wednesday.

Officials found Earnest Holcomb in Ocilla around 8:20 p.m. Thursday evening.

Authorities followed up on a tip that led to Holcomb's capture, they aren't releasing specific details about where he was found to protect the identity of the tipster. But Sheriff Bobby McLemore did say that he was found hiding underneath an Ocilla house.

Holcomb escaped from the Ben Hill County Jail Wednesday afternoon.

Holcomb is one of seven suspects charged with murdering a Fitzgerald lottery winner back in January.

He will now face felony escape charges which carry a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison.

Holcomb was last seen in the jail around 3:20 p.m. Wednesday afternoon and likely escaped after 5:00 p.m.

Sheriff McLemore believes someone may have helped Holcomb escape.

"We tracked him across a little hedge road next to the Sheriff's Office across the field to the road, Appomattox Road, and it looked like a car pulled over on the side of the road and possibly picked him up," said Sheriff McLemore.

The case is still under investigation as deputies search for the person who may have help Holcomb escape.

He sure didn't enjoy his 'freedom' very long; especially in a crawl space with spiders and who know what else.  Too bad one didn't bite his azz.

Holcomb did himself a favor by being recaptured. They could have declared open season on him if his pants were slipping while running away and they thought he was " reaching for something."

Enjoy your stay in prison Lowlife!

It stands to reason, he was able to escape from "Benny Hill" County Jail.

      • Don't chase the numbers you play.
      • Play only numbers you've already played, plus however many random picks.
      • But, ALWAYS the regular numbers you play.  This will make you a winner, not a chaser.
(so far, though, I've yet to win any significant lotto prize)

Glad that he was caught. I have no sympathy at all for violent offenders.

            .

Neither do I, as I am already scared just to leave my house because of them,
(though in reality, I've never had any such thing actually happen in my neighborhood, or  within at least a 30 mile radius of where I'm at.)

I have no such associations, and will have none that even entertain any thots of burglary/arson/home invasion, whatever you want to call it.

No, he sure didn't, Mr. Bluedog101.

And the spiders and other creepy-crawly things. . . . well, that's probably what flushed him out.

I guess that's why science hasn't eradicated the doggone things yet. For just this sort of case.

(imagine if crooks could hide anywhere, and not be freaked out by bugs).

Todd would you link the original article and recent concerning sentencing?

Well he probably had nothing to lose but the consequences that come with it. Good luck with that because they are going to bury you young man!!

There has not been a trial yet.  (Hence no sentencing yet.)  The guy is a suspect.  All articles on the subject are already linked in the story.

All suspects in America are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. Stand up for your rights before you lose them.

The show, Forensic Files, has shown how witnesses can make mistakes and send the wrong person to prison. While the forensics today have sent many to prison.

music I really enjoy all your posts but you have this one wrong.  Yes, innocent until proven guilty; however, the murdered guy's girlfriend was an eyewitness.  This scum shot him in front of his children despite his pleas not to do it.  This is a slam dunk for a capital offense.  This is one instance where I wish a lottery winner wasn't a winner.  Sad that his children have to live with this memory.

l watch those shows as well M including the " 1st 48hrs". Since Holcomb is one of 7 suspects it's very likely that the cops got one or more of these guys to name names as to who else was "  with you at the scene of the crime. " Once the cops start saying " you alone are going down for all of this unless you tell us what we need to know"..many of these guys start talking.  The idea that one guy is willing to take the rap for all the others is few & far between. You going to serve 15 to life while your accomplices are out, banging chick's & drinking booze while you rot inside..don't think so.

Holcomb did not escape because his innocent. .imho.
