COLUMBIA, S.C. — A Florence, South Carolina, woman cashed in on the largest Pick 4 payout to a single person in S.C. lottery history.
According to lottery officials, the winning tickets were worth a combined $304,000.
The winning combination was her mom's birth date, 1-1-4-3, drawn the evening of September 17.
She played those numbers 30 times. Ten times she played her numbers straight, betting $5 each time to win $250,000. Twenty times she played her numbers straight/box, betting $1 each time to win $54,000.
The winner, who by South Carolina lottery law is permitted to remain anonymous to the public, invested $70 into the lottery tickets and ended up taking home a $304,000 payday.
She said that was her strategy for winning and has been on and off for two years, but she was still surprised when it paid off in such a big way.
"I screamed," she said when her numbers were drawn. "Now this gives me a chance to help other people."
She told lottery officials she wasn't feeling well that day and wasn't going to play her numbers, when something told her to get up.
"It just came across me," she said. "Now this gives me a chance to help other people."
She plans to keep playing but try her children's birth dates next.
Cruizers on E. Palmetto St. in Florence receives a $3,040 commission for selling the claimed tickets.

This story speaks for itself in 2 ways. Number 1, gut reaction. As she said, she wasn't feeling well but something told her to her to play, and she did. It paid off big. Secondly, the same numbers. Her Mom's birthday. She probably has played those numbers multiple times, and now it paid. Moral of the story, "your numbers will come".

While her wagering amount is far larger than the typical player, there are many others who wager the same way. In PA, I occasionally see players buying $20+ on the same number.
Also, various retailers have mentioned to me instances of players regularly coming in playing $50-$100 on the same number daily. It can be a hassle for the retailer, since often the player will want it all on 50 cent tickets to avoid having to file a claim for each. The machines print faster than in the past, but the network delay is still there and it can take awhile, especially during busy periods and/or if the retailer network connection is poor.
Anyways, congrats to her for the big win :)
And hopefully, without getting carried away, she wagers big on that same number (and maybe some variants) for awhile, at least occasionally. It's amazing how often it happens that the same or similar (ie. boxed) number will come up again within a relatively short period of time. Not a certainty, but happens more often than one might expect.

Well on P3 and P4 I think lots of people play birthday numbers or other special numbers. Frankly, how much $$$ would you bet that she is lying and really used a system? Kinda like.....put your money where your mouth (or fingers in this case) is.

Depends on how often "off and on" is, but had she wagered $70 twice a day, every day for two years, her profit would still be over $200,000.
