PowerballPowerball: Lottery winner accused of child sex assault freed from jailRating:

PATERSON, N.J. — A New Jersey man who won a $338 million Powerball lottery jackpot will be freed from jail while he awaits trial on charges he sexually assaulted a child.

A judge issued the ruling Monday during a detention hearing for 49-year-old Pedro Quezada.

Quezada will be electronically monitored and confined to his home except when traveling to see his lawyer and his financial adviser.

He was charged last week with sexual assault and child endangerment. His lawyer has said he's being targeted.

The accuser is now 20. She told authorities Quezada touched her breast, legs and other body parts when she was around 11 or 12, according to court documents. She said when she was around 13 or 14 he forced her to have sex after he bought her a flat iron for her hair.

Quezada worked at his bodega in Passaic before winning the lottery in 2013. He took a $152 million lump sum payment.

He faced legal trouble before his arrest.

He was once sued by a contractor who claimed he wasn't paid after doing renovations to a home Quezada owned. He also was accused of going back on his promise to help his neighbors pay their rent.

Thank GOD for the thin blue line of police officers protecting all of us. They are a part of the Judicial system.

Is Pedro a citizen of the U.S.? He came to the U.S. from the Dominican Republic as a teenager.

He is now able to afford the best lawyers to defend him.

The article doesn't say how much bail money he had to pony up, or if he had to surrender his passport.    Sounds like the judge doesn't believe Quezada's a flight risk.  $150 million can buy a lot of freedom in this world.  Guess we'll find out.

I'm glad I'm not one of those people who judge a situation without hearing the facts or both sides of the story. This guy clearly was a target because of his wealth, people will do anything to gain riches, yes including using their children as sexual bait. It's sad at the things that are happening today, and I'm afraid this is only the beginning. The Bible didn't lie when it states "The Love Of Money Is The Root Of ALL Evil'"

Life is not fair when a rich person can afford expensive attorneys while the poor suffer injustice.

I Agree! but my Bible reads, "The love of money is the root of many evils".

I do not understand your correction.  "@" money?

I can correct my last quote to, "The Love of money is a root of many evils."

You sure about that? You then wrote this:

Sounds like you already made up your mind...i.e. judged "the situation without hearing the facts or both sides of the story."

mikeintexas,  I do not want to be the judge, jury, and executioner here on LP.

Sometimes in the past, the jury has decided the opposite of the way I would have. But I was not in the courtroom like they were.

Plus the LAW can be a complicated thing to understand.

I'm curious if the victim asked for money before filing the charges.  It will be interesting to see how this one works out.  One side is clearly lying through their teeth.

In 34 years of living l've learned that a fool eyes is in the back of his head (Bible). People like u are the reason this country is the way it is. You don't understand someone who doesn't look or act the way u do, you only care about what effects u and yours. Alert buddy, your not perfect, sometime people are falsely accused of things they didn't do. thats why the Bible's teaches us to LOVE rather then HATE and to reserve judgement.

I have too much to offer then to take, maybe you should try to be a light in someone's life and not a hater, it won't cost u.

What an idiot you are.  I have lived more years than you, so by your measure I'm that much more wise than you.  - snicker-

I certainly didn't virtue signal like you did - say you weren't making a judgement then proceed to make one.  THAT's what's wrong with this country, hypocrites such as yourself.  Don't quote the Bible's teachings if you're not going to live up to them.

I didn't make a comment on guilt or innocence, just pointed out you're a two-faced puke.   Face it, you're only angry b/c you know I'm right.

You've lived and clearly not learned anything. Continue to be ignorant and bitter on someone else's time, I'm not going back and forth with a flag worshipper, I'm not that stupid. Good day.
