PATERSON, N.J. — A New Jersey man who won a $338 million Powerball lottery jackpot will be freed from jail while he awaits trial on charges he sexually assaulted a child.
A judge issued the ruling Monday during a detention hearing for 49-year-old Pedro Quezada.
Quezada will be electronically monitored and confined to his home except when traveling to see his lawyer and his financial adviser.
He was charged last week with sexual assault and child endangerment. His lawyer has said he's being targeted.
The accuser is now 20. She told authorities Quezada touched her breast, legs and other body parts when she was around 11 or 12, according to court documents. She said when she was around 13 or 14 he forced her to have sex after he bought her a flat iron for her hair.
Quezada worked at his bodega in Passaic before winning the lottery in 2013. He took a $152 million lump sum payment.
He faced legal trouble before his arrest.
He was once sued by a contractor who claimed he wasn't paid after doing renovations to a home Quezada owned. He also was accused of going back on his promise to help his neighbors pay their rent.

Is Pedro a citizen of the U.S.? He came to the U.S. from the Dominican Republic as a teenager.
He is now able to afford the best lawyers to defend him.
The article doesn't say how much bail money he had to pony up, or if he had to surrender his passport. Sounds like the judge doesn't believe Quezada's a flight risk. $150 million can buy a lot of freedom in this world. Guess we'll find out.
I'm glad I'm not one of those people who judge a situation without hearing the facts or both sides of the story. This guy clearly was a target because of his wealth, people will do anything to gain riches, yes including using their children as sexual bait. Sometimes in the past, the jury has decided the opposite of the way I would have. But I was not in the courtroom like they were.

I'm curious if the victim asked for money before filing the charges. It will be interesting to see how this one works out. One side is clearly lying through their teeth.

I don’t Why winners would ever turn to crime anyway. Think of all the crime you could FIGHT being a winner and having the power to fly, travel through time, become invisible, read minds, predict the future, levitate objects, walk on water, etc. Oh and save people from hurricanes too! I bet if a winner waved a copy of their winning ticket in the direction of a hurricane and chanted “Be gone storm!” three times that the hurricane would just go poof and vanish. The awesome magical power of the winning ticket would instantly destroy it.
It goes to show that when you win the jackpot, claim your winning through a Trust that you have created...

Hebrew (Old Testament) and and the New Testament Greek are very difficult to translate into Latin and Germanic based languages. Thus, it is probably a mistake to get too nitpicky. I took a Greek course in college and a class assignment was to translate a particular passage from the New Testament. Everyone came up with a different translation; in some instances there were drastic differences.
From what I understand the law has no statue of limitations when it comes to sexual abuse of minors.

Unbelievable! I"ve seen videos of his family and friends asking help and hoping for just his return to D.R. (Dominican Republic). I don't know if he did but they needed his help. Don't judge, Everyone has made false promises in their life and trust me when it comes to money or relating to money even when you have too much , who's to say who will come through. I hope the allegations aren't true especially for the claimed victim. if He's truly innocent and wins for what ever reason most of you will think he paid his way out. Bottom line, stay away from evil, make no promises and just come through with good intentions.
