5 Card Cash retired to make room for new game

By Todd Northrop

A lottery game format that has grown in popularity in recent years is now finding its way to Wisconsin.

Starting today, Wisconsin lottery players are able to buy tickets for the latest Wisconsin Lottery game called All or Nothing.

In the new game, players choose 11 numbers from a total pool of 22 numbers, and they can win the top prize by matching either all or none of the 11 numbers drawn to the numbers on their game ticket.

The top prize is $100,000.

All or Nothing is the Wisconsin Lottery's first new lotto draw game in five years. The last new game added, 5 Card Cash, debuted on April 6, 2014, and is now being retired by the lottery to make room for the new game.

The last drawing of 5 Card Cash was held on Saturday.

Tickets for the new All or Nothing game cost $2 each. Drawings will be held every day at 9:00 p.m. Central Time.

Wisconsin is not the first state to implement the 'All or Nothing' game format.  Currently, the states of Georgia, Massachusetts, and Texas, as well as the Canadian provinces of Ontario and Québec and the country of Ireland, have started All or Nothing games.  (The game name and draw frequency varies by jurisdiction.)

The game format does not have universal appeal, however. The states of Arizona, Illinois, and North Carolina, as well as Iowa and Minnesota participating in a multi-state version of the game, have all retired an All or Nothing game in the past couple of years.

"We are very excited about our launch of the new All or Nothing daily game," said Wisconsin Lottery Director Cindy Polzin. "There is always great anticipation for a new game and since this particular play style is something that we have not had before, it adds to the buzz around this launch."

In addition to the $100,000 top prize won by matching all or none of the 11 numbers drawn, three lower prize amounts are possible for other combinations.

In total, there are eight ways to win Wisconsin's All or Nothing:

  • Match three or eight numbers for $4 (1 in 26 odds)
  • Match two or nine numbers for $40 (1 in 234 odds)
  • Match one or 10 numbers for $500 (1 in 5,831 odds)
  • Match zero or 11 numbers for $100,000 (1 in 705,432 odds)

No prizes are won for matching four, five, six, or seven numbers.

As of Saturday, the Wisconsin Lottery's 5 Card Cash game is no longer offered for purchase. Prizes won in past drawings of 5 Card Cash may still be redeemed up to 180 days after the draw date printed on the ticket.

Since debuting in April 2014, 5 Card Cash has paid out more than $18.5 million in prizes.

According to the Wisconsin Lottery, game retirements allow the lottery officials to introduce new offerings that aid property tax relief for Wisconsin residents. The lottery staff continually reviews its product lines and makes adjustments as needed based on data trends and feedback.

I just bought my ticket this morning, we'll see how it goes.  Good luck to all the players in Wisconsin.

Maybe we could be so lucky in Kentucky and be rid of Five Card Cash here and get our own All or Nothing game here.

I've played this game pretty hard the past few years, but I cut back on it this year. In Texas the jackpot is $250,000, picking 12 out of 24 numbers.

My likes...the overall odds are pretty good, meaning you can often at least win your $2 back, and I have won $250 a few times playing the same (or alternating) numbers 5 times, (winning $50 on each play 5 times).

My dislikes....the $2 cost. The jackpot odds are too long for the jackpot. And Texas has 4 draws a day, and you can't pick which draw unless you buy your ticket before the next scheduled draw. So, if I want to play only the night draw for the whole week, it's impossible. To play the whole week at a time means buying ALL 24 draws, $48. No thank you. Or if I just want to play tomorrow night, I can't buy my ticket for that draw until after the evening draw.

By contrast, our Texas 2 Step has much better odds, and a rolling jackpot that starts at $200,000. It's currently at $900,000 for tomorrow night. Tix are $1.

Even if you buy a ticket in every online and every scratch-off game but one every day, it doesn't mean there are not players that enjoy playing the one game you don't like. From the lottery's point of view, it's just another nightly drawing that adds about 5 seconds to the streaming show without much overhead. And from players point of view, the chances of winning something is much better than most games.

Oh, the odd of winning something playing Five Card Cash are about the same a the Texas and Georgia All or Nothing games. It's all about player preference and the KY Lottery is one of the best at listening to the players.

It is another stupid game to me.

2.00 a crack !!

I wrote to them 3 times.

Never replied so they say they would send to head honches.

Lol

They never changed our pick 3 or 4 game.

Have to all or nothing.

Many states have better with pairs and 1 off's

Wisconsin sucks with their payouts and games

I predicted both the Georgia and Texas All or Nothing games for a long time and saw lots of other predictions, but seldom see $500 winners and not very many $50 winners. If anyone plays this game, don't expect to show a profit without winning the jackpot.

KLC doesn't go to the State Fair anymore.  But when they did sure gave them a piece of mind about Five Card Trash as I call it.  BTW you cannot play that on-line; same for Quick Bucks.  Now Quick Bucks might have a chance if they would roll over if no top winners.  Nothing was said when that was mentioned on-FB private message about that thought.  But in all fairness, we are Blessed if you will, to have such a progressive lottery.

I'd like to see a pick-5 Quinto type game in KY, but I don't think they will let me choose which current game to replace. Currently there are 15 $10 scratch-off games, 5 $20s, 2 $25s, and 1 $30 a ticket scratch-off all with payoffs over $100,000. And that's not counting the Online games.

And the Quick Bucks and Five Card Cash popularity and payoffs won't change that.

We'll see if your last sentence comes to fruition end of the year.  I think you'll be surprised with their lackluster performance for putting money in the kitty.

Terrible game.....steer clear...

Stack47

It's terrible tough game because most of the possible combos will match 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8 numbers and either pay nothing or the price of a ticket.

Seems most people fail to realize that ALL lottery games are meant to generate money for the states, not for the players. Only a lucky few win more than they spend.
