PowerballPowerball: Colorado man wins two $1 million lottery prizes on the same dayRating:

He's played the same numbers for 30 years

PUEBLO, Colo. — They say persistence is key, and after 30 years of playing the same numbers in the Colorado Lottery, a man in Pueblo, Colorado, found that to be true and finally got his big reward.

Two big rewards, that is.

The winner, identified as "Joe B.," won two major Powerball prizes on Wednesday, March 25 — worth $1 million each. "Joe B." claimed the winnings Friday.

The winning tickets were both sold to "Joe B." on Lake Avenue in Pueblo: one at a 7-Eleven (926 Lake Ave.), the other at a Loaf and Jug (2050 Lake Ave.). According to Colorado Lottery's Communications Director Meghan Dougherty, "Joe B." bought one ticket in the morning, the other in the evening.

Each ticket the lucky player purchased had identical self-picked numbers and two quick picks. (See photo actual tickets below.) Let's just say "Joe. B" has better luck picking numbers than the lottery machine did.

That isn't Pueblo's only lottery success story as of late — a $2 million winning ticket was sold in Wednesday's Powerball drawing at Alta Convenience on 2801 N. Elizabeth.

Colorado Springs got a share of the luck, too. Another ticket, worth $1 million, also sold in the Wednesday drawing, was bought at Fontaine at 5 Widefield Blvd.

Earlier in April, the Colorado Lottery received approval to process winning tickets worth $10,000 or more at a touch-free, drive-through claims office in Pueblo in light of COVID-19. Winners must make an appointment, and can do so by calling the Colorado Lottery offices at 1-800-999-2959.

Players can also claim their prizes through the mail.

Nice! He turned $12 into $2 million. I bet he plans to replace that van for a newer one. Couldn't come at a better time.

Come on Joe B...is that the secret to winning the lottery?   Here I thought QP was the way to go!

Big congratulations to him on this huge win X 2.

Awesome for him.  The only thing different I would have done was use 2 different PB numbers.   That's what I do if my purchase overlaps.  Otherwise he is set.

Fifteen years on this side of winning a jackpot, hoping to be on the other side soon.

Too bad the story doesn't say if it was intentional or a memory lapse. Either way, that is some phenomenal luck. Congrats to Joe B!

If I drove the 4+ hrs there and bought all the tickets before they ran out of rolled paper - I would end up shifting the whatever winner there was back to my town with my luck LOL

                      Congrats to the "Multiple Wins".

I noticed on one ticket he purchased one ticket at 8:45 a.m. at one location.

And the second at 5:46 p.m. at a different location.

No problem with that, I've bought my same tickets twice for one drawing as well on a mistake.

I wonder if he made a mistake? Or if it was planned to include the QP's? And taking the chance.

Hope it happens to "ALL" of us here on Lottery Post at least once in our lives!

Joe B is a man after my own heart.

I've done what he did many times.  The only difference between what Joe B did and what I do is that I buy the same line five times on a single ticket and I add the Power Play. You read that right and you're correct, I'm completely crazy. It costs me a whopping 3 dollars per line to play the same set of five numbers five times on a single ticket.  In effect, it costs me 15 dollars for one line.

But if I was as lucky as Joe B and matched five numbers, I'd win $10,000,000.  Joe B only won two million.  G5

Players who've won large lottery jackpots have something in common. Many of them say "I've played the lottery for years, but I never won anything but small prizes."   That's normal or typical, but it's also why you should not get discouraged and stop playing.  Who knows?  Maybe someday you'll say "I've played the lottery for years...."

Interesting strategy G5. I will use that strategy on my next binge of Powerball tickets. 5 lines all the same, but with different PB numbers at the end. I'll add PowerPlay too. Thanks for sharing.

Regarding you or I winning $10,000,000 is debatable. With all the COVID-19 changes, low ticket sales, the lottery or state might not have the funds to cover all prizes

Here is a blurb from the FL lottery website: All non-jackpot prizes are set payouts. If funds are insufficient to pay set prizes, non-jackpot prizes may be paid on a pari-mutuel basis and could be lower than the amount shown.

I'd speculate to say they'd only pay us $5,000,000 to be able to cover the other prize payouts. Thoughts?
