Sounds to me that some states ordered too much vaccine and the demand dropped like a rock.

IIRC, the Federal government allocated vaccine based on population data. States were then able to distribute it as they wanted. They didn't get to "order" doses (There were stories of some states asking for more doses because they had greater demand.)

The people who "wanted" to be vaccinated are predominantly vaccinated... 

It is the "holdouts" that these lotteries are aimed at.

If the "holdouts" remain as too great a proportion of the population, then the USA will never reach "herd immunity".. COVID-19 will remain in the population ready to strike at anytime when there was a sufficient pool of vulnerable people (lack suitable antibodies...)

It's an interesting, expensive, unit of data from Covid-19 virus to measure.  I wonder that if the %dead of residents within the USA, within 12 months, had been higher than the .15% actual dead ... would more residents have received the free full vaccine by now. I believe that most folks understand that the free full vaccine has been available, for the past month, at most grocery store pharmacies, without a wait.

Well if you get vaccined just for the purpose of getting chances to enter a sweepstakes for the playoff tickets and have not won anything, you end up being stuck with something that is so dangerous and can change your dna for the rest of your life , and if somthing should happen to you after you get vaccinated and have not won anything and you cant sue your doctor, hospital, and manufacturers because they are excused from any liability whatsoever and your insurance policy refuses to cover your injury plus your funeral expenses which you have been making monthly payments for years and they can be cancelled and you work hard for nothing! 

I will never compromise my life or dna for the vaccination for the sake of the playoff game tickets!

I just read that over 42,000 people died last year from auto accidents last year, and no one seems too concerned about that. But stuff like covid and vaccines unfortunately turn into politics and conspiracy nonsense. How did this country get to this point? Actually I remember sometime in the 1980's my wife and I had friends in Ohio, and my wife was talking to her friend about some common vaccine for kids, and her friend said "nope, not my babies, not going to experiment on my babies". I just looked at her like she was nuts.

It depends on what you mean by "too concerned". It's not easy to avoid driving so most people accept the risk, but there's been an enormous effort to reduce that risk starting almost as son as people began driving. And (at least so far) very few people have tried to turn it into a  giant political issue, and there aren't a bunch of make believe news outlets claiming that highway fatalities are an elaborate hoax/conspiracy.

FWIW, Texas recently had one day with zero (some sources put it at 3) deaths from COVID, prompting a certain source of faux news to say "Texas reports zero COVID deaths months after liberal media predicted doomsday". Of course there were about 250 deaths during the other 6 days that happened that week. That means that Texans are still about 3.5 times as likely to die of COVID as they are to die in a traffic accident. That's compared to an average of almost 14 times as likely over the last year.

Amen. Society does far too much (such as seat belt laws) to make it harder for Darwin to do what he does best. My only objection to people not getting vaccinated because they're stupid is that they may infect people with a legitimate reason for not being vaccinated, or some of the very few vaccinated people who aren't as well protected as the vast majority of people. The only thing better than removing some people from the gene pool altogether is at least making it difficult for them to pollute the pool.
