A Monmouth County woman has claimed a $12 million Mega Millions lottery jackpot.
Cindy Wilson had the only winning ticket for the Oct. 7 drawing, lottery officials said Monday. Wilson, a Neptune Township resident who works as an engineer, was attending a business meeting in Tampa, Fla., when she checked her ticket against the winning numbers printed in a newspaper.
Needless to say, they finished the meeting without me, Wilson said in a prepared statement issued Monday by the New Jersey Lottery.
Wilson chose to receive annual payments of $461,000, and she got her first check -- for more than $350,000, after federal taxes were taken out -- on Monday. If she had chosen to receive a lump-sum payment, she would have been paid more than $5.2 million after taxes.
Wilson purchased her winning ticket at Ricks Wine & Liquor in Neptune on the day of the drawing. The stores owner, Virendra Patel of Farmingdale, will receive $10,000 as the vendor of the winning ticket.
That's NOT TRUE a REAL LOTTERY PLAYER is a PLAYER that WINS MONEY or selects his OWN NUMBERS.How he ACCEPTS his MONEY has nothing to do with it as long as he GETS HIS MONEY be it CASH or ANNUITY.
How could she choose annual payments with NJ lottery winnings free of state tax for NJ residents? What's her age?
AFAIK she's the first Mega Millions "loser"-refusing to take the cash.
Way to go Cindy!!! maybe she had a GOOD reason for accepting an Annuity instead of a Lump Sum.
I doubt it, Pick-4. I'd rather pick my nose than choose annuity.
How do you know? did you ask her?
