Why doesn't Utah have a lottery...
DC81 Not to argue, but the casino thing is no myth. After the recession of the early 1980s, Nevada casinos had to go out of state for financing. In that part of the country, that meant Salt Lake City, and of course, that meant Mormons. Casino interests knew that the term gambling wouldn't go over big with Mormon bankers, and that is how gambling became called gaming . As for the soda thing, well, way back when Joseph Smith had a hang up about hot beverages, and then you're right, that s

Why doesn't Utah have a lottery...
North Dakota DOES have a lottery - not much of one, though. Utah is way too Mormon - besides, the jack Mormons (Mormons who drink, gamble, etc.) can always go to Idaho to get Powerbal tickets if they want to. Nevada has tried a bunch of times to geta lottery and the casino interests shoot it down every time. Alabama will get one eventually. Mississipi too probably.

Why doesn't Utah have a lottery...
I was in Salt Lake City for the 2002 Olympics and let's just say this. It did not seem like a state that would have a lottery. It was a very conservative town. I would think since this is such a Mormon population that they wouldn't allow any type of gambling. Nevada already has enough gambling. And seeing as the entire population of North Dakota falls in the 640,000 range, it's probably not worth it. Not sure on the other states, maybe someone else can shed some light.

If your state doesn't have a lottery...
...and you would like your state to set-up a lottery to fund health, education, local government or other works for the public good. You can put pressure on your state and local politicians by supporting other state lotteries. When politicians see revenue going out-of state, support education and community projects in other states, they wake up and smell the coffee. If you live in Alabama, Alaska, Arkansas, Hawaii, Mississippi, Nevada, Utah, or Wyoming, states without a lottery, and you

Why is it beneficial to collect a lottery jackpot as a LLC?
It probably won't fully protect you all that much though if you get a big judgement against you, but Nevada does allow to do form a LLC without an actual business behind it. It might be too complicated for what it's worth so maybe going the Trust route would be better. But eh, this is something you should work out with a lawyer when you're getting everything ready. There's certainly many factors that aren't even touched upon with all our daydreaming . Just don't let on that you have a lot of mon

Claiming as a trust or partnership
Good question, Justxploring!! I would think you'd have to be a resident of at least the cpunty you form the trust in, but then again, with multiple people they wouldn't all have to be, would they? Wouldn't it be bdetter not to use a family name or name at all, something more like Numbers Galore Trust instead of DiLucia Family Partnership? Makes me wonder what would happen if a group of people formed a corporation in Nevada or Delaware and the coprporation hit a jackpot.

Hope, Optimism or Stupidity?
Maybe she said something like, I never buy them, I buy scrathcers . Nothing wrong with hope - without hope there'd be very little lotto play going on. I remember coming out of a lottery place in California one day near the Nevada border and an Asian girl made the observation that when people are coming out of a casino they usually look p. o'd because they probably lost- but when they come out of the lottery place with their tickets they have hope on their face (at least til the drawing!

What is Rich?
I agree. But others would prefer a diamond-studded wheelchair. Right now, I'm thinking of Steve Fossett. Multi-millionaire adventurer, who flew an aircraft a week or so ago, must have gotten lost somewhere in the Nevada-California mountains. Hope he'll be found safe and sound, but if he were in a precarious and critical situation, I wouldn't be surprise if he's praying, All that I have, just get me out of here alive! Rich is relative, depending on what situation you are in your lif

travel to buy lottery tickets
Nope. The closest state with MegaMillions is a 5 or 6 hour drive one way. Too far. But if Oregon or Nevada had it, I'd travel when the jackpot was high. I did travel to Oregon a couple months ago when their state lotto was over 30 million. Got a Set for Life while I was there. Oregon only does 6 advance draws and has 3 draws per week on state lotto, so I could only get 2 weeks of tickets. Decided it wasn't worth it. Like Justx, all I thought about was how many more Powerballs I could h
