State Tax
I always thought income was based on where it was earned, not where you live, but I've had a similar question. Every state is the US has different tax policies. I live in California. California neither taxes residents nor taxes non-residents if they win a lottery that is played within the state of California. California does tax California residents on external lottery winnings (gambling winnings from another state). Furthermore, California does not tax winnings from Indian Casinos in Calif

what state do you see joining the lottery next?
In my opinion, the following states will get a lottery: 1. Arkansas - In 2000, 65% of Arkansas voters declined to establish a state lottery and permit casinos. However, February 2004 a poll indicated that 71% of those polled were opposed to paying more in income taxes to support public school and would rather have a lottery to support public school. November 2004, Question #1, the property tax increase for education, failed in Arkansas. 2. Alaska I would make this state #1, but it is

This is so hypocritical of their faith and religious precepts. It's like saying that you are against prostitution but it's okay for you to own

Imposing lotto religion...
Within the US most 'legal' casinos outside Nevada and New Jersey are on lands held 'in trust' by the US Bureau of Indian Affairs for various tribes of Native Americans. Reservations. As a rule, individual tribal members don't see any particular benefits from these establishments (I speak only for the ones in my area). Even in small tribes of a couple of K members 'owning' giant casino establishments, many tribal members are still enjoying welfare state benefits and qualify for poverty benef

CinCin, When a riverboat casino I worked on opened some of the employees told us they were getting snubbed by their neighbors. The same pit clerk who told us that story said within a year all the people who were giving her static had asked her for free passes to get on the boat. Who really need money?
OK, let me add this to this thread.... A Tale of Two Rich Folk.... These are both true stories from when I worked in casinos. We had a player who had been a farmer in Colorado for years. Unknown to him, there was a very precious ore under his land. This made him extremely wealthy. One night he made a really good score on our table (dice pit) and shortly before the shift ended our pit boss pulled our crew aside and said, Mr. T has invited this crew to meet him at such and such a plac
