Appeals court hands loss to New Jersey sports betting effort
A federal appeals court on Tuesday dealt another defeat to New Jersey's years long attempt to legalize sports betting, setting aside the state's legal challenge to a federal betting ban. The 3rd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals' ruling invalidated a law passed by New Jersey in 2014 that would have allowed sports betting at casinos and racetracks. The court found New Jersey's law violated the 1992 Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act, which limits sports betting to the handful of states

Pa. lawmaker wants to give lottery winners right to remain anonymous
A Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, lawmaker unveiled legislation Friday that would allow lottery winners to keep their identities hidden from the public. State Rep. Ted Harhai, D-58, Monessen, said he believes the proposal would help lottery winners avoid the pitfalls that have plagued many past prize winners, from alleged murder attempts to thefts and scams. I think providing this option is necessary, Harhai said in a statement. In particular, multi-state lottery jackpots can reach int

Few major lottery jackpot winners get chance to be anonymous
Note to the Kansas and Maryland winners of last month's $656 million lottery jackpot: Count your anonymous blessings. The states, where ticket holders claimed their $218.6 million portions in anonymity, are two of only six states that allow lottery winners' names to remain secret. Officials in states other than Kansas, Maryland, Delaware, Michigan, North Dakota and Ohio make public the names of lottery winners, with rare exceptions. Most see the identities of winners as a matter of public

Study: Hoosier Lottery has worst financial decline in USA
It's been a while since I've had anything to do with the Hoosier Lottery, but if I remember correctly, they switched to an electronic drawing format for all their games sometime in 2001. According to their CPA/ Internal Auditor, a man named Joe Pfister, their first RNG was downloaded from a now-defunct web site called Lottery.com. That simple code was then uploaded to two 486 desktops (is anyone here old enough to remember those?) which served as our official draw machines for the next two years

NY Lottery OKs video table games
The New York Lottery will permit state-run casinos to add video roulette, baccarat, craps and blackjack next year even if the Assembly fails to authorize the move.
