This thread is anti-MM and has been from the very beginning. The first post reads: I've stopped playing Mega Millions completely. The automagic multiplier does not impress. The odds are a mess. I'll play the others for less.

I'm not sure if 415,000 tickets sold is a good thing or not. it's good from the players standpoint of lower odds to win a million dollars, but whether or not the Florida Lottery will cut the number of winners from 10 down to a lower number due to lower sales is another thing altogether. The odds of getting 5 out of 58 are 4,582,116 and they don't change just because there is a Millionaire ball. Do any of those 4,582,116 possible ways to match 5/58 allow you to match the 6th ball? If so what portion of the 4,582,116 possible ways to match 5/58 win 2nd place instead of first place? they say the wealth hardly gets down to the 3rd generation. Curious but skeptical
Been lurking a while and finally curious enough to ask. With all the machine-learning stuff everywhere now, I've been tinkering with running models against historical draw data just to see what shakes out Monte Carlo, Markov chains, a couple of neural-net experiments. before you tell us the MM is 'Measly' compare the MM and PB jackpots and consider taking a remedial math course. The measly millions nonsense has been tired for a while already, and MM is growing at about the same per-drawing rate as PB. A lot of players talk about or are thinking about value when buying a lottery ticket. That's fine if that's important to a player. Given the odds of winning any jackpot, the value is always a negative. I respect the length people go to when calculating that value it would be interesting to see the same approach towards the purchase a pack of cigarettes or beer When I buy tickets all I'm thinking about is What could/would I do with it if I won a big pile of money?
