SC Lottery not paying winnings on game because of 'programming error'
People who believed they were big winners in a simple South Carolina Education Lottery game over the Christmas holiday were angry to discover that they won't actually win anything.
That's because a computer glitch awarded many would-be lucky lottery winners thousands of dollars through the Holiday Cash game.
From 5:51 to 7:53 p.m. on Christmas Day, the same play symbol was repeated in all nine available play areas on tickets which would result in a top prize of $500, according to the South

Study: N.C. Lottery scammers have cheated state out of $7 million
Lottery scammers have cheated North Carolina out of an estimated $7 million in back taxes and delinquent child support since 2009, a non-partisan arm of the General Assembly said.
At the request of a state legislator, the Fiscal Research Division teamed up with a UNC-Chapel Hill statistician to calculate the loss following an Observer investigation that found dozens of players winning the lottery so often that their luck defies logic.
Highlighted in the Observer's series was a lucrative se

British Columbia Lottery taking bets on US election
Bubble B
Still don't have a clue do ya? There is a big difference between job displacement and moving jobs elsewhere.
Automation is coming and will continue to do more and more as years go by. Jobs can be phased out little by
little where as closing a plant here and moving it elsewhere is not the same thing.
I am a embedded system programmer so automation is my heartbeat. The reason for moving to Mexico had
nothing to do with automation else they would automate here.
I have to

State lawmaker calls for Illinois Lottery probe in light of audit findings
Lottery head resigns, another possible winner payout shutdown looms
A state lawmaker is calling for an investigation of the Illinois Lottery after a recent audit revealed it had violated the state finance law.
The audit found that the Lottery circumvented the state's budget impasse by prepaying $20 million to take part in future multi-state lottery games, such as Powerball and Mega Millions.
State Rep. Jack Franks, D-Marengo, said he wants either Illinois State Attorney General Lisa Mad

British Columbia Lottery wants to upgrade computerized drawing system
By Todd Northrop
Canada's British Columbia Lottery Corporation (BCLC) has issued a Request for Information (RFI) in order to expand and improve its ability to conduct computerized lottery drawings.
While the lottery may view a new computerized drawing system as a step-up for the organization, lottery players may feel differently. In the United States, computerized drawings are the basis for the biggest scandal to ever rock the lottery industry.
According to the RFI, the British Columbia

Lottery rigging scandal prompts security audit in South Dakota
The scandal unfolding in Iowa, where software allowed some results to be rigged in multi-state lotto drawings, has added to concerns among South Dakota Lottery officials, spurring them to proceed Thursday in requesting proposals for a security review of South Dakota Lottery facilities.
The review also would cover the statewide video-lottery system and the statewide lotto jackpot system.
Each separately connects with hundreds of private businesses.
The scratch-ticket system also would be

First lawsuit in state lottery-fixing scandal seeks millions
It was one of those feel-good moments that lotteries love to promote when Lucky Larry Dawson smiled as he claimed a $9 million jackpot, surrounded by kids and grandkids. But five years later, the Iowa man could become a key player in a barrage of litigation that threatens to cost state lotteries tens of millions of dollars in damages in an insider jackpot-rigging scandal.
A Des Moines law firm filed a lawsuit Wednesday on Dawson's behalf seeking to declare that his Hot Lotto jackpot in May 20

Iraqi's Oregon jackpot raises questions on lottery sales
The man from Baghdad showed up unannounced this month in a state office building in Salem, Ore., with a piece of paper in his hand that he said was worth $6.4 million. He politely asked that his name be kept quiet, then told state officials that he had set up a local bank account into which they should deposit money annually. And then he went away, richer and more mysterious than when he arrived.
It was not an ordinary day at the Oregon Lottery.
The story started with small details, lotter
