Same Lotto Numbers Come Up Sat and Sun
takeitez asked: << That takes a mathematician ??? >>Reporters like to lend an air of authority to their stories. If one wrote a story about sunrise they'd probably quote an astronomer saying the sun rises in the east. Of course there's also that story in the related stories box that says that some Oklahomans are baffled by pick 3. Clearly whoever wrote this story has a pretty poor grasp of simple math if they believe the odds of picking a particular number from 1000 choices is a mill

$315M Mega Millions lottery winners stay on the job
Same here. Several years ago I was part of an even larger pool because I worked for a large corp with a plant in Chicago. There were over 20 of us and we never won much and I'm assuming the odds for the IL lottery are a lot lower than Mega Money or Powerball. Obviously the more tickets that are played, the better your chances are of defeating the odds. However, saying 21 or 100 or even 200 tickets will get you closer to the jackpot when odds are 1 in 170M is still a little optimistic. (of cours

North Carolina lottery officials plan to interview candidates for their top staff post next week, a key move in their effort to start selling state gaming tickets by next spring.Members of the state's lottery commission say they likely will have to offer a director a top-dollar salary more than $150,000, plus bonuses to get the person they want.Commission members sifted through a pool of 200 applications during a 45-minute meeting Monday that was closed to the public.About 15 candidates have

New To The Board - Hi
I've done it twice, once as a member of a pool with 10 players including me that contributed $50 to play Ohio Super Lotto and another time for some former co-workers when I went to Indiana to pick up some PowerBall tickets. In the Super Lotto game I had come close several times to matching 5of6 with $25 worth of tickets so when the jackpot got to $14M my coworkers ask me to come up with 500 lines using my program as I had done before and make out the tickets and they would chip in and help buy th

That's a whole Lotto bread!
They're rolling in dough.Ten bakery workers at a Staten Island Shop Rite are splitting some major bread - a $19 million New York Lottery jackpot. You can't explain the feeling, said winner Linda Revella, 55, who is already planning to buy a 2006 Land Rover SUV or a Mercedes-Benz SL 500. I've never had this much money. About three months ago, the 10 bakers from the supermarket on Hylan Blvd. in New Dorp decided to pool their money for good luck. We kept on losing [at Mega Millions], then we dec

B.C. lottery officials extend deadline to settle fight over jackpot
The British Columbia Lottery Corp. has given two groups of feuding fast-food workers another day to decide who deserves a share of a $14.5 million Lotto 6/49 jackpot. They've asked for more time, Jim Lightbody, the corporation's vice-president of gaming, said Monday. We're not certain why. Nine workers at an A W fast-food restaurant in Mission, B.C., say they're the only rightful claimants to the prize from the Aug. 13 draw. But four others have come forward to demand a share of the jackpot, sa

Coworkers fight for share of B.C. lottery win
This kind of thing is likely to happen with lottery pools that allows people to join off and on when ever they have some extra change or feel lucky. People who've contributed off and on for years will want to share the big money even if they didn't contribute anything the last time around. A few year ago a Cleveland steel mill lottery pool that won the jackpot wanted to reduce the winnings for one of its new member because he had just joined a few months before they won and the rest of the pool
