Not so much can I afford it but rather due to the low odds? Instead of playing one set of numbers for Illinois Lucky Day Lotto (5/45 progressive jackpot, tonight $750,000) I played five. So according to some herer I've cut ther odds of 1,221,759 down to 38,719 so surely I can expect to win somethnig tonight, no? The easy way to understand the difference is from the end of Tucker's last post... 4/500,000... this is where probability stops... one ticket gives you 4 favorable outcomes to the 500,000 possible outcomes. Spot on. The raw odds don't lie. Most people just burn money chasing individual picks blindly. That's why backtesting past densities and filtering out statistically trash combinations is the only way to play smart, even if it's just to minimize the damage lol.
