N.Y. looks to join Powerball lottery
The New York Lottery is seeking to enter the 32 jurisdictions currently selling the Powerball lottery as a way to increase state revenue and stop jackpot seekers from heading to other states to play.
The New York Lottery is expected to get the go-ahead to enter Powerball through a provision in the 2009-10 state budget that allows the state to enter more than one multi-jurisdictional lottery. New York participates in the 12-state Mega Millions lottery.

After nearly 24 years and millions in prizes, the California Lottery is replacing its Big Spin television game show with what it hopes will be a more attractive, four-part successor, Make Me a Millionaire.
The weekly half-hour show will air for the first time Saturday on 10 stations in the same 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. time bracket as The Big Spin.
Over the years, in the realm of game shows, we've seen a lot of newer, more exciting shows come along, said Alex Traverso, a lottery spokesman. This

N.J. lawmakers want full disclosure of lottery prizes
Games with no top prize remaining would be pulled from stores, if the measure is approved
If you buy a lottery ticket dreaming of winning a prize such as a hybrid car or $1 million in cash, those prizes should still be available when the ticket is sold, two New Jersey legislators contend.
State Assemblymen Paul Moriarty and John Burzichelli have co-sponsored legislation that would require lottery agents to be notified when the top lottery prizes have been awarded, so no other tickets will

Senate panels look into privatizing Texas Lottery
As state revenue from the Texas Lottery continues to decline, two Senate committees on Wednesday began searching for ways to boost the state's take from the games of chance including the possible privatization of the entire lottery operation.
Senators indicated they are willing to look at a variety of options to get the revenue flow back on an upward track after recent declines - including a drop to about $975 million this fiscal year after several straight years of totals over $1 billion - a

S.C. Lottery Director: Profit losses leveling off
Sales of South Carolina lottery tickets initially sank as gas prices climbed, but customers seem to have gotten used to paying more at the pump, the state's lottery director said Wednesday.
When gas prices climbed above $3 a gallon after Hurricane Katrina, lottery sales at South Carolina gas stations fell sharply, probably because customers felt that they had less pocket change after filling up. But a sample survey of retailers shows convenience store sales have since leveled, director Ernie

Arkansas Lt. Gov. proposes state lottery in '08
On Tuesday, Arkansas Lieutenant Governor Bill Halter said he hopes to have a state lottery on the ballot by 2008.
That gives Arkansas voters the opportunity to decide for themselves whether or not the state should have a lottery, with all of the proceeds going to scholarship assistance to Arkansas students, said Halter.
Currently Arkansas is only one of eight states across the nation without a state lottery in place.
Neighboring Mississippi and Alabama are among others.
But state

Calif. Lottery fails to meet Mega Millions deadline
The Democrat-controlled California legislature, which has taken an adversarial role against the California Lottery for the past several years, has not met its obligation to change state law by a court-ordered deadline, aimed at ensuring participation in multi-state lotto is fair to education, lottery officials said Wednesday.
The lottery bill making the needed change extension of California's prize-claim period to match 11 other Mega Millions states remained stalled on the eve of Friday's
